Went down to Wales yesterday to pick up my brothers new car. On the way back was stuck in a queue behind a White van, nice long straight to overtake and plenty space between it and car infront.
As i overtook he nailed it to try and close the gap, luckily being in an Frs i got in, but with barely any space. I was really angry!
Then my brother, also in an frs overtook him and he done the same thing, but this time moved out into the middle of the road too! My heart dropped watching this in the mirrors, i thought i was going to see a huge accident.

Why would someone do something so dangerous! what kind of wk stain do you have to be, to basically try and crash two cars.

I've noticed this too on occasion. It would seem that very slow drivers actually enjoy the queue they are creating and don't want anyone to get in front of them. Clearly, they have a personality disorder and sadly, the roads are where their shortcomings can be played out.

Wait, a FRS is a Focus RS right? MK1 or MK2? I would have thought both generations would have had enough shove to fly past a white van in 3rd gear, even if he was going flat out to block you.

When I had my old Fiesta, some old tt in a Mercedes tried this with me in Scotland on a straight, I kept my foot in and he gave up before I did. When I slotted in back in front of him, I slowed down to the limit, and he backed right off to 45mph again, within about 20 seconds he was out of sight.

I have not had anyone try it since, though in my current car if I was not already giving it full beans on the overtake, I'd just blip it into 3rd and use the lead foot, they'd have to be in something fairly tasty to block me once that was deployed!

It's absolutely despicable behaviour though, it's the realm of absolute cretinism.

Some people for some reason can't seem to stomach being overtaken. Why they decide to endanger everyone surrounding them because of this i can't understand myself. If someone wants to go faster why is it your problem?

On a dual carriageway i had it when someone slowed down in the right hand lane blocking my route i wasn't even tailgating him. He even felt the need to put both hands behind the back of his head to prove some sort of point, untill his car decided to swerve in the direction of the cenral reservation.

I like to complete the manoeuvre so quickly they don't have time to react like this. No floating around behind them to let them know you're frustrated. Just make your decision, wait placidly for an appropriate opportunity to come up and commit! Great fun!

Have this happen a few times, think more so as i use back roads a lot it's crazy. It's one of the reasons why I have 2 cars which in the right gear have enough go to get past stuff with ease.

More power = safer (in the right hands) imo.

I started a similar topic last week, http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... alot of people seemed to be oblivious to the fact other drivers get pissed when they get overtaken.
Admittedly, i dont like being overtaken either, although, id never speed up or swerve to stop the overtaker.

Why would you not like being overtaken?

Why don't you like being overtaken? If someone wants to go faster than you, what's the problem that makes you resentful?

It's a lot worse when someone does it to you and you're driving one of these......

Admittedly I'd not like being overtaken by me either hehe

I can't help but be overtaken! I spend most of my driving with arm on windowsill, admiring the view.

Everyone going slower than me is a dawdling fool, everyone going faster than me is a suicidal maniac.

If a death were to occur as a result of such an action and it was proved in court, would the 'accelerator' potentially be facing a manslaughter charge?

Whist I can sort of understand getting a little peed off if he was driving a very slow car at it limits and still being overtaken (ah the joys of a 954cc 205... frown) What I don't understand is if they're already crawling along using a fraction of the performance (fair enough), but THEN decide to go faster when you (try to) overtake safely punch

The fact he was driving a van is very unprofessional too - I assume there were no markings on the van?

I might have had this my old Civic but I'd always overtake in full banzai VTEC mode so didn't make a difference. In my MR2 it's more noticable... recently overtook a dawdling driver on a straight road who attempted to match my speed, I pulled in and my mirror was full of a silver mk4 Golf with some seething old/middle aged fkwit (is this a common theme?). Of course come the first corner I go round at 6 10ths and he goes backwards. tt. rolleyes

At least, murder would be more appropriate surely?

I had the same thing occur to me recently - which was quite normal (considering how often it happens lately!) I thought. However, the difference for me this time was that the driver actually changed from going 45 in a 60 to well over an indicated 60 behind me on a clear straight whilst flashing his headlights and making strange gestures at me once I had performed a perfectly safe overtake. Definitely agree with the comment about personality disorders, because I can't see no other explanation for it.
