F1 Pit Stops - Front Jack Man
Discussion
Just watching the Turkish GP and Vettel's pit stop.
Seeing the front jack man hauling the jack (forward) from under the car and then swinging it like an Olympic hammer thrower out of the way got me thinking.
Why doesn't the front man stand in the normal position for the actual stop but then have a button to swing the jack handle towards the garage during the tyre change.
Then he could just drop the car and pull the jack (sideways relative to the car; towards the garage, i.e. not forwards and swing it) and then the lolly pop man releases the car.
Since the front jack man would now already be away from the front of the car that could surely save a few 10ths?
What do you think?

IIRC Mercedes and Ferrari do just that already.
Watching it more closely now... I see you're right! Thoght I was onto something there.....Interesting to see how McLaren have a second jack man ready and waiting in case the car comes in too quick and takes the legs off the first guy
