So after not wearing a watch for well over 6 years I decided I wanted to start again, and what better place than a Seiko 5 I thought.

I bought the watch below as it pretty much fitted the bill of what I was looking for perfectly, except for the rectangular hands. I would have preferred pointed but there we go.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seiko-Automatic-Stainless-...

Anyway, watch arrived and unfortunately, despite the fact the measurements are clearly on the link there, I didn't realise how small it was! It's far too small for me anyway, I'm not a fan of extremely large watches but this is no good. I have looked at other similar style 5s and they all seem to be about the same size.

I was hoping someone might have some suggestions regarding an alternative, more average sized watch?

Thanks,

LukeBird

Seiko have recently added some larger Seiko 5s to their range (a 40mm 'pilot' style one is included & well liked), worth looking on Creation watches. smile

Can the stainless steel strap on the seiko 5 snk809k1 be easily changed, say for a leather one?

Yes. Very simple to do if you have the tools, if not a simple job for a jewellers/watchmakers.

I picked up one of these last week: http://www.creationwatches.com/products/seiko-auto...

Thoroughly recommended on here and I can see why: it's a very solid chunky thing. And a bargain.

Mine is similar to the chrono above but it's automatic. It's quite big at 43mm.

Quoting myself to say that I got this ^^^ as an anniversary gift this morning from SWMBO (aka bloody lovely wifey). It looks even better in the flesh than in the photo, very pleased indeed - although I'm not wearing it as it needs two links taking out and I couldn't afford to be late for work this morning....

Happy Andy!

I reckon they have to be one of the best VFM watches you can buy! Mine (orange dial) is pretty accurate now I've regulated it.

Seikos have a good following where I work, in fact 3 of us wore the orange dial one in on Monday, totally unplanned, was camp as Christmas, but just proves how popular they are, every WIS should have one!

So thanks for your suggestions everyone. I believe I have now looked at every watch in the Seiko 5 range, and a lot of other Seikos too. I have come to conclusion that a Seiko is not for me.

So, I've seen some links to Tao watches in the £50 thread (I'm not constrained to that budget but I want a relatively cheap daily beater, although if I find something perfect then I'm sure I'll spring for it.)

They have some rather tasty numbers, an example:

However, I really want a metal strap and they only seem to do leather (unless I'm blind?)

I know you can buy metal bands and have them fitted, but my question is, am in terms of "fit" of the watch to the band, will I be satisfied given that the two weren't paired at birth? Or will they always look a bit funny together?

Also, I've been looking at black straps but I'm wondering if the colour rubs off them after a while?

Any input greatly appreciated or feel free to point me to other watches you think I might like.

Thanks everyone
