Snetterton 300 Track Day 19/05/11
Discussion
ouch, max number of cars advised by msv for the one on the 29th was 75 http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...
not sure how close to that number there ended up being, the drivers briefing seemed fairly stuffed, but generally seemed ok apart from the stoppages after lunch but some of those were not car related

There are a maximum of 90 cars for the event with 40 on track at any one time, which considering there is now an extra mile, hopefully the track won't be too crowded.
Other than the initial rush to get on track, I am also hoping that there ought not to be too much of a queue to get on track.
Come 9am and the green flag, I will be heading for a bacon sandwich and letting everyone vent their frustrations / rush to get on track for a half an hour.
It's a long day, 9am to 5pm, so hoping that there should be plenty of good time on track. That said there are a lot of cars, so I hope it is run tot he usual Javelin standards.
Look forward to seeing you all there and to trying out my shiny new silencer that is currently sitting on my passengers seat.

When I was there last month with racing line they sold just 50 places and then advertised it as full. This was spot on as there was never a wait to get on track. The track still felt busy due to speed difference in cars meaning lots of passing took place. There certainly seems to be a trend over the last few years for most TDO’s to sell more and more places to point where sometimes they are not true open pit days, in my opinion if your having to wait to get on track then they have sold too many places. (110 places for just 40 on track, sound poor value for money to me and is bound to mean less track time, hardly any better than sessions which are normally far cheaper.
Why do people continue to put up with this trend, is there any sort of guidelines for what ratio of cars to space on track organisers can book?
Sorry slight rant, OP hope you have a good day, it’s certainly a fun track.

I'll be going with three of my mates. I've done a dedicated track day before along with some laps of Donnington and a day in an elise so I've put myself down as a novice, my mates have even less experience so apologies now if we get in anyones way!
Myself - MG TF 160
Minty - SL55 AMG
Yohan - 911 Turbo (996)
Mitch - either a 3.2v6 Vectra or a VX220
Should be a good fun day! We are camping just down the road too so a 3 min drive to the track for us in the morning

Simple answer is that there are far more people prepared to pay £150 and queue for 5-10 minutes each time they want to get out on track than there are people prepared to pay £300 to have a quieter track and "true" open pit lane. I'm firmly in the latter group and have always felt that BaT should be offering the sort of events I would want to attend (and be prepared to pay for) myself. It's not just about the "cost per minute" on track either, it's about the quality of the track time once you're out there. We're also capping our Snetterton event on Thursday to just 50 cars, which in reality means on average we're unlikely to have any more than ~25 cars on track at any one time.

Hi chaps. Good to see a few piston headers going to this.
I'll be there in a Red mr2 turbo (black roof). My Dad is in a Yellow Tiger super 6. I look forward to seeing a few of you there
Just out of interest where about are you camping? We may do the same as its quite a drive.
See you all there !

I was at the MSV day recently and they let 75 spaces. On the one hand I appreciated that the track is half as long again this year, but I was, equally, a little concerned about how busy the track might become. It's not just about the "cost per minute" on track either, it's about the quality of the track time once you're out there. As it turned out (as Trix noted above) the only busy place was the briefing room. There were still many times during the day when you could see no-one ahead of you and no-one in the rear-view mirror.
Personally, and others may disagree, I find driving round an empty track pretty boring.
Hi Phil.
I've just sent the chaps at the Angel inn an email. We have now decided to camp there too. We're taking a few beers and camping chairs so will pop over and say hello.
More than likely be arriving around 7-8pm.
James/Matt We'll be sure to meet you both being fellow PistonHeaders
Like you say, lets hope for a nice dry day!

To be honest, i'm happier with an empty track as no one is/should be racing or chasing so it gives you a perfect opportunity to learn your lines. Getting these spot on without having to worry about getting out of someones way or passing someone else.Gassing Station | Track Days | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
