Thunderbolts and Lightning

V V Frightening - I know.

So Apple are wetting their pants over the Thunderbolt I/O system at the moment, iMacs and MacBook Pros have it already. Latest, and obviously unreliable Nikon rumours have been suggesting that future Nikons will be Thunderbolts as well as USB 2.0. Yours truly sitting around waiting to see the D3s and D700 replacements.

My Q: isn't this all irrelevant, because it will be dependent upon the read/write speed of the card(s) used?

Or am I missing the Thundering-Point?

As far as the camera is concerned it will make no difference to me - I'll just keep popping the cards out and in a reader.

If/when chunderbolt takes off I may get a pci card adapter and suitable reader, however I can't see the initial cost of the 'new' technology justifying the benefits of the faster download speed.

ETA - and yes you are right on the card speed point - although they will also be improving in time.
