Another tedious "What car" thread small cars for £5k max

A friend is looking for a car and suggestions
Budget tops of £5k pref 4.5
Small ish but capable of occasional long motorway trips , economy not too important mostly local running day to day not too small and not too slow
I've suggested
Fabia 1.2 or 1.4 petrols
Mini's
Focus 1.6 petrols
206 HDI
she has found a Clio but complained of the vague steering which seems to be a re-occuring theme with that model but i tend to steer away from French stuff as a rule so not to familiar with them
