I travel long-haul quite a bit, but it seems a recent phenomenom that people get on the plane with several pieces of luggage. There was a lone girl today with a massive roll on suitcase which didn't have a hope in hell of fitting in the over head locker, a laptop, large rucksack plus hand bag and duty free...

We pushed back today with people still trying to find space to fit their luggage in over head racks, and the crew desperately stuggling to fit things in any availible space...

Plus this wasn't even a flight where you have to pay to put luggage in the hold.

Anyway just seems a bit selfish/greedy...

I completely agree, its one of my pet hates. I take pride in travelling as light as possible and it annoys me when the person sitting next to me has umpteen bags.

It's only on the budget airlines that the "one item of carry-on luggage" rule is applied or enforced. Elsewhere one carry-on suitcase plus a laptop bag or handbag.

I find just as annoying those people who get on a plane, put their bags in the locker at the front then walk to the back of the plane. Bloody annoying, but then I'm grumpy

A general rule of thumb is the later someone boards a plane, the more luggage they have...

Plus some (all) budget airlines enforce that duty free must be packed into the one carry on bag, else it's another 46 quid. (nominates entirely arbitrary surcharge)

I think its just a mindset for people now...they have a certain size "bag" for carry on, and so take it regardless of the flight they're on. Then just take extra aswell when they go long haul.

I've got to go to Turkey for work on Thursday, and am flying Thomas Cook charter...it's not going to be good!

Ha, good timing for this thread!

I'm off to the US next week and my laptop bag has no pockets so I was debating if I would get on with my laptop bag and a small gym bag that has plenty of zip pockets for passports/keys etc that I usually use for carry on.

Sounds like I'll have no problem but might upset a few people! To be fair though the laptop case and my bag combined are smaller than what a lot of people I've seen carrying on.
