SHUT IT!!!
National Noise Action Day is nearly upon us
Discussion
This site always goes on about the drivers right to be treated like a member of a supposed free society, i pay my road tax, i pay insurance (and for my stereo) now why on earth should i not be able to play it however i like? does it distract me? well i have 5years no claims and 7 years without a crash! The only reason that has any validity within this poorly thought out and badly reprosented artical is that other people may find it offensive, well tuff! I find many things on the road both offeensive and distracting, but a car stereo?? they are normally only within earshot for seconds and if you have your windows up you probably can't hear it anyway, why dont you people take your own advice that you so often voice to the police and that is "concentrate on somthing that actually makes a difference" instead of bothering people who have different interests to you! as a site you believe it is okay to help people get of speeding offences that may have been putting peoples lives in danger but try and stop people playing loud music??? write something that has some sort of meaning please.

I think you've missed the point a bit, the report is quoting Greenflag, it isn't the opinion of the pistonheads website. Correct me if I'm wrong Ted, but the only bit of opinion was related to the Max Power brigade who always seem to have awful fluffy bass booming from their hatchbacks, which is fairly ridiculous, you have to admit.

Good one !
I think Pistonheads readers stand for tolerance of many things, and we all like to cause a bit of noise sometimes ( you should hear my sports exhaust...), but we also tend to promote common sense, safe aware, good driving etc.
This is where we differ with many (not all) of the "max power" brigade (I hate that term, as I often like the mad cars- it's individual and that's good, but I know what you mean..).
We don't wish to flaunt the law, make ourselves unpopular and be generally anti-social, we just feel that enthusiastic driving should not be in the same class as drink driving (for example) and instead promote a high standard of driving skills and general road awareness - I bet there are many advanced drivers on Pistonheads...
what we don't need is a blatant **** you attitude, which will just make Tonys cronies try and restrict us even further !
Oh and Jon - I obviously checked YOUR profile..... your car is the same as mine :-)

Please if "We reckon the bass-box boys will turn a deaf ear to that advice so we have our own. "SHUT IT - YOUR MUSICAL SHED IS A DISGRACE"" is a quote from a green flag reprosentotive then i would be more than willing to retract any negative aspect of the post directed against any part of the site, otherwise my point stands. As for being a newbie, errr so what? i didn't relise that being a member for a longer amount of time made your opinion more relevent! My main point is this i have been envolved in the ICE world for a few years and have a sponserd car by blaupunkt, and dont think that my hobbie is any more antisocial than most other things associated with driving i.e pollution, general noise or even the smell from catalytic converters, and as such does not deserve a slateing on any pro driveing website. on 99.9% of all the articals on this site i am in agreeance but wanted to voice my opinion on one that was esspecially relevent to me, no direct offence was ment and if it has been caused then i apologise.
Calm down.
I made the comment and I stand by it. Call me an old fart but I can't concentrate on driving with music turned up loud.
That aside, my comments were more aimed at the knobs who cruise around with pumping stereos saying 'hey look at me' when they just look like total pratts.
So there.

There is a certain amount of "quiet" pleasure to be gained by the knowledge that damaged eardrums and progressive deafness is guaranteed for those that persist with the "look at me enormous decibel in a tin can syndrome" - one of the few areas that surgery can't fix apparently - although hearing aids can improve things - you just feel a bit of a berk having to aquire them in your 30's rather than 70's.......

I couldnt really of put it any better than Carzee there: "What a load of shit". I have a good stereo in my car, and as far as I am concerned it doesnt seem to annoy anyone. It hasnt caused me to have an accident either. I have to agree theres no point in a sound system there just to show off either though. That being said, they dont bother me, they can do what they like. Actually, a car is one of the few places you can get away with playing loud music. Most people have neighbours to consider
They are just miserable gits and are looking for something else to whinge about.

They are just miserable gits and are looking for something else to whinge about.
People moan about drivers using mobile phones, but it's ok to distract yourself with the ear splitting sound of what can only be discribed as really awful music. In my youth, we had to be content with 247 radio 1, and Super Tramp "Blasting" out of the 25 watt!!! stereo cassette. And if you had an Audioline with built in graphic equaliser, you really were the "Daddy"!

Everyone should have the right to do what they want, as long as it doesn't annoy anyone else. A good basis for sanity.. except there is always gonna be someone who doesn't like whatever *you* are doing.
Errr, I've lost the point I was trying to make, but it's something like "my music is cool, and I like it played loud enough that I can feel it, but *your* music is crap, turn the bloody thing off!!".
Think we're better off talking cars and numpties. Well, I am, anyway. And bikes. More lager nurse.

Yeah, no probs - listen to your stereo as loud as you like - but I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT !!
This rant was aimed at the twats who drive with the windows down and the stereo putting out more power than the engine, especially the one who fill the boot with speakers and the doors with concrete to stop the vibration.
If that's you then SHUT IT !!!

"Recent research has found that drivers listening to fast music are twice as likely to have an accident (research was undertaken this year at the Ben-Gurion University in Israel). It also reveals that there is a link between loud music and reckless driving behaviour."
Well, my favourite is Mozart and Tschaikovsky when driving very fast on empty Autobahnen during sunrise in a heavy, powerful, comfortable limousine. Loud.

You know ... hate to admit it, but I don't mind my Primera ...
Well look, I never thought or expected it was a performance car. But it can carry the family and all the luggage we can imagine comfortably at whatever speed my wife lets me get away with, and it's reasonably economical to run, and it looks OK (I'll get slated for that one!) ...
If you want a TVR, buy a TVR (I'm going to
). The Primera does what it sets out to do reasonably well. It's not trying to be a TVR (or a common-as-muck TT ...
) Only real gripe is the tyre noise.
Anyway who gives a sh*t it's only an ordinarybox, and it does the ordinarybox job well. If you don't like it flog it and get ... another ordinarybox if you've a family?
