Changing spark plugs on a 4.2

Can the plugs be changed without taking the plenums off? The manual instructs this way but from old posts it looks as though you don't need too, you just need small hands and flexible socket drive extensions.
I did try fumbling around when the engine was hot which wasn't a smart idea!

Not a hope of getting to the plugs with the airboxes in place. Its only 2 minutes work to take them off anyway.

Thanks, what seals the airboxes back on if they are removed, the manual mentions a foam type gasket I think, would hate to pull them off and then realise I should have bought a gasket...

Hi

I did mine only last week the air boxes come off and are only held on with 5 m6 bolts on each side and and the ducting jubilee clips as well.

the foam that seals them will stay on the inlet side they might me a little sticky to come away at first but they will come. Don't worry to much about them.

As for the plugs them self it's great fun (sarcasm) well more pushing the suppressor caps back on the the 2 rear plugs is tight and sore on the fingers but make sure you hear or feel them click on to the top of the plug as there are a pig.

You can replace the foam with generic sticky backed foam strip (about 3mm thick if I remember rightly).

However if the old foam is coming loose, be very careful when you replace the airboxes that it doesn't hang down inside the air box in such a way that the end of the foam strip can get sucked into a throttle body and wedged under the butterfly as you accelerate hard up a motorway slip road... DAMHIKIJKOK!
