Nikon 16-85mm - any opinions?

I'm looking for a lens to replace my elderly 18-70mm.

The 18-70mm has given fantastic service on three different cameras but maybe it's time to let it have an easy retirement.


Anyone got any experience of the 16-85mm Nikon?

A good range - bit wider and longer than my current lens.


Are zooms still inferior to primes at this pricing (I'm not going full frame at any point in future..)?


No suggestions for the 50mm please - I have one - but it's not useful for my needs on the DX sensor.
(surely the nifty fifty is the MX5 of the photography forum!)

I think there's one of these variants thats a constant F4 if required, I played with one in Jessops a year or so ago. Was pricey for what it was IMO, somewhere around the £550'ish mark. Could be wrong as it's a while ago now
