Waterproofing soft tops

Can anyone advise me if there is a product on the market which can be sprayed on / applied to a fabric soft top and causes water to "bead" and run off ?

i have seen a video on the web showing a top being washed/cleaned, then getting the waterproof treatment.
but cant seem to find it at the mo.

Be careful. I once used the 2 part Turtle wax cleaner / waterproofer and it cleaned the roof so well that it became very porus, even after I had used the second can to waterproof it. I had followed the instructions! After a few appeals a TVR dealer I knew recomended Thompsons Waterproofer (it does what it says on the tin). I didn't think it would work or that it would crack but it was excellent!

Hi, I've used Autoglym soft top cleaner & water proofing kit on my 911 & it works really well.
I've treated it twice & the water beads off it no problem.
Cost about £ 20.00.

Another positive for autoglym. I actually ran out after few sprays on my new car and haven't gotten round to buying more, and despite washing the car quite a few times in the six months I've had it, there are still the same few patches that bead up! I need to buy some more!

Thompsons Waterseal is regularly recommended, used it on my Chimaera roof to good effect. Its meant for brickwork but does the job beautifully

I use Grangers Fabsil, but I wouldn't want to spray silicon waterproofer on any car paintwork. It's easier and safer to brush it on.

Check out Renovo products. I've got 2 soft tops and water beads off like you want. There's 2 products for waterproofing - one's a colour restorer which does offer waterproofing, the other is a brush on water repellent, which is what makes the water run off.

So good, I'm about to buy the stuff for my f-i-l's boat cockpit cover and canopy.

I use Renovo, but can't say if any good as it never goes out in the rain

careful how you clean the hood, some cleaning stuff could leave marks

I suppose you could use a vacuum cleaner with soft brush attachment before and after cleaning to lift pile but make sure the head is clean and roof fully dry

On my TVR roofs I used a velcromatic style clothes dust and lint 'brush' (similar to the ones they used to advertise in the 70s) that brought the pile up nicely after or instead of cleaning

then when clean and fully dry I think I once carefully sprayed with Fabsil (blue can then) check the label first now in case your hood is of different material to that hood and in case they've changed the chemicals in spray

I've also use Renevo and Auto-Glym and wasn't that impressed with either

I've got a proper plastic hood now so I don't have to tart about

Good stuff,I`ve used it for years on my old classic and my SL320,just don't leave any drips on the paint work as it sticks like glue.

I've had good results with the Autoglym system too. The XJS roof isn't in particularly good condition but it is still completely leak-free in torrential rain - not that it gets that experience very often.
