And not involved the Police, Insurance or whatever, passed a bend today where my cousin and I (Him Driving), couple of mates in the back had an incident that involved a detour into a field, car (Magnum 2300, great car) was scraped, battered and a bit muddy but ok and nobody else was involved.

Never thought at the time, about 1990 but do you have to report it, say we binned it really badly and wrecked the car but got it home without any Police involvement or insurance claim, say an old bin of a car that isn't worth claiming for ?

After 21 years I'd be quietly confident that you'll get away with it.

I'm sure it happens all the time. I've never crashed although I did once park my Focus at work close to a wall. When I got out, the stud on the front number plate was touching the wall!

Yes, once. I overcooked it on a bend and lost control of my Ford Orion. I ended up smashing into a kerb and destroying the nearside front suspension.

The thing still moved so I drove home slowly, scrapped it and bought a new car. No damage was caused to anything but my car (and pride) so no harm done. Happens all the time.

I was also involved in another accident. Another car pulled out in front of me. I managed to avoid it but went off the road in the process. The offending vehicle sped off. My car was was wrecked; but 'twas only a cheap Citroen so went down the same lines.

Why bother losing my no claims etc for the sake of an old banger?

Happens quite a bit.. you have to sum up whether its worth not informing police and insurers and if you can get your 300$ car out of the field without assistance biggrin

Once upon a time we put a car on it's roof as a passenger with a guy I know in some back lanes. With the help of 2 others we got it back on it's wheels and drove it (slowly) back to his house.

Luckily it had a rollcage/full harness belts/race seats wink

If there is no damage to 3rd party property and no injuries then its not a requirement to involve either the police or insurance.

If you damage a farmers fence or hedge then your supposed to report it. If you dont and they trace you then I think its called criminal damage.

I would never get into a car with a person who had fitted said modifications smile Says something about how risky they believe their driving is, no? biggrin Or was it a track car, which he was "demonstrating"?

I damaged a farmers fence frown . Just got someone to find the farmer and had a wee chat with him. Ended up agreeing on a price for which I would give him to get the fence repaired and that was that. I drove home on a spare tyre and new "lightning scratch decal" all over my car. Ended up selling it a couple of months down the line suffering only £200 depreciation. smile

TBH, I got let off really easily by the farmer, I got quotes from people about how much it would cost to fix the fence, and it was 2-3 times the amount which the farmer took. Think he just bought the barbed wire himself and fixed it himself.

On a similar note, I once parked my Capri 2.8I at a builders merchant next to a skip.
I reversed into the space not noticing a strip of metal sticking out of the skip, which had peeled part of the stripe off my car but hadn't touch the paint underneath!

Confession time.

A long long time ago, before breathalysers, I drove a VW microbus back from a pub to a campsite in deepest north Wales. It was late. I was the only one of us still capable of standing up but the bus's steering was shot and it responded - shall we say, occasionally. The consequence was that a lot of parked cars along the town bit of the route (which was mostly empty country lances, thank goodness) probably got a bit - er - textured.

I'm not proud of it: the event lives with me as if it were yesterday...
