Ultimate Q -Car
Discussion
I was looking through a MSN car article about 50 low key performance cars and up popped this. I reckon it must be the ultimate of factory produced Q-Cars. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2712859.htm

256bhp from a 4.6 V8! I can't believe they couldn't do better than that in 2005.
Should be 260bhp SAE Net.But it's also a cast iron blocked SOHC 2v per clylinder Ford engine developed in the early 1990's and is in it's lowest state of tune.
Not too mention only idiots and fools rate an engines ability on bhp per litre as the sole metric.

Exactly, just cuz it has a big lump under the bonnet, doesnt mean its quick. I suspect it will be about as quick as a 325i, no?I'm driving the Octavia. He's in the passenger seat. We go from a 30 into an NSL zone. I floor it in 2nd.
"Bloody hell, I thought you said this was a 1.8?!!?"
"It is. But it has 20 valves and a turbo."
"Well it feels faster than my Dad's old Rover, and that was a 2.3."
"Yes, it is. It's probably around 50-60 bhp more than the Rover, and lighter."
"But it's a 2.3, this is only a 1.8."
Same friend who upon seeing my 205 GTI for the first time said "a 1.9? That's insane!"

How about the ability to do some fairly light bolt on mods and see 300'ish hp?
Or bolt on a supercharger and have 420-450hp?

RWD? Is this a mod or was that the standard config on the 4.6?
If it was standard....want! :-)
What a shame, that even after all this time people still don't know. MGRover never stood a chance with such overwhelming support....If it was standard....want! :-)
It's RWD, factory standard. Available as a Rover 75 or a more racey MG ZT260 and even an estate ZT-T version.
Very well sorted chassis and suspension for a factory car, very taught and driftable with very good steering.
Not hugely fast in standard tune, but there is a mountain of tuning parts available as this is the same engine that powered the sn95 Mustang GT for many years as well as many other Ford vehicles.

Well I'm sold on it, I thought all 75's were FWD and am very pleased to hear this one wasn't as for some reason I really like them. It's RWD, factory standard. Available as a Rover 75 or a more racey MG ZT260 and even an estate ZT-T version.

If I can ever sell my 4.4 E38 sport then this is now top of my list.

They are a bit like a 4 door TVR in some ways.If I can ever sell my 4.4 E38 sport then this is now top of my list.
Very British and quite unique. But they are a superb drive, they just need more power.
But in truth, some cams and head work combined with exhaust/intake would see 300-330hp maybe a little more. Then slap on a 125-150 shot of nitrous for when you need it. It'd really upset a lot of cars.

Lucky I didn't mention anything about bhp per litre then eh! It doesn't matter if it's running 10 or 1000bhp per litre, with a peak power of 256bhp in a big car like that it will not be going anywhere impressively fast.300bhp/ton said:

It stands no chance in stock, light or heavy modded form!

But it will *sound* very good. Which in normal day to day driving would be way more useful. Tunnel runs with one of these, windows down, with a suitably "friendly" exhaust would be pretty damn awesome.xr287 said:

I agree power to weight is not great. But all things in perspective, it is more powerful with a better power to weight ratio than a ZT190, so was bar far MG's most powerful mainstream model. The troque figure also highly contributes to this being easily and readily deployable too.And define fast? It's Civic Type R sort of quick. Which I wouldn't exactly call slow.
