Just wondering why alot of companys tend to use ford granada stub axel and bearings....why?? Why dont such companys use porsche, BMW or mercedes units..Is it because the ford granada stub axel and bearings are not 'press fit' units and the other german unit are...Wouldnt it be better to use porsche hubs, drive shafts etc seeing as it uses the G50 box.....can any one shine some light on this
many thanks

maybe, but there is not that much difference concidering its just the bearing and stub that is used.

Were they "over-engineered" when designed...?

maybe availability and the fact that the bearings aren't pressed making it easier to replace the bearings.

I think the original Ultima was partly based on Granada parts (rack uprights etc...) and the factory have taken it further by having aluminum uprights cast........
I even think they also machine the hubs from scatch now so don't actually use any Granada items at all (except maybe a bearing) just has the same wheel dimensions.

using the porsche half shafts, bearings and spindles on the rear seems to make much more sense, Evert thing fits together and is good for ultima power making buying GKN after market shafts and lobro joint un neccesary!!

Except that the driveshafts will have to be custom parts anyway because the position of the gearbox and uprights will differ from the original Porsche.

I know an ultima with 400bhp twisted one and broke the other Porsche shafts... and he had to upgrade to GKN items.

Also I doubt new porsche items are cheaper than GKN anyway and you must keep in mind that an ultima uses new components.

from which granada (mk , year) does the ultima take its spindles?? or did the granada keep the same spindle design through its 85 - 94 production?
