Both with the tyres squealing, one off traffic lights and the other looking like it was struggling to hold on round a corner.

And both of the were (drum roll please) Toyota Prius's, the new Toyota performance car or just someone frustrated at the company car choice?

Was rather surprised to see something that's bought for ecomony and saving the planet being driven so hard.

Toyota 'technicians' giving them a PDI?

edit: thinking about it, the tyres are so horribly awful they probably squeal at the tiniest provocation...

Could be courtesy cars and someone really hates the Toyota Prius?

I see this regularly on the motorway - Prius' driven with foot nailed to the floor spitting out more CO2 than my car cruising on a light throttle at 80mph, but I'm the one paying £445 tax! biggrin

I've noticed this too. Very strange. Imagine how much resentment that driver's bottling up.

See this quite a lot. Company car syndrome I expect.

I've only ever been in a Prius once, and it was a taxi back from town. It was run by Enviro-Cab or some other stupid name.

The taxi driver though it was fully electric. I assume this because he used the accelerator and brake as though they were switches.

Uncomfortable ride, incredible fuel usage and no tip for him, even on New Years Eve.

Ideally, never again.

A similar thing happened to me a couple of days ago. A Honda CR-Z and I were following a tractor down a B road. The tractor pulled off, and I was all ready to squirt past the hybrid when he shot off like a bullet from a gun! Not the eco driving I was expecting...

+1 only in the last few months but yes, seem to be more and more of them blatting around being driven at what seems to be 'the edge' of their capabilities.

Now that must be a curse.... hehe

But the number of times that I see Prii (or Prius's or whatever) blasting down the M4 amazes me! Had one the other day. Must have been doing 110MPH or something! Flew past and was doing the harrassing thing to get drivers out of the way! He got baulked and thats way I caught up again....

But why? Dont get it. Life or death? Dont know, but driving was very much at odd with the owner profile.

The CR-Z is not the same as the Prius though. For one thing, lots of them are manuals: so he probably dropped a few gears and hoofed it. For seconds, the electric motor is there to give extra 'shove' from low speed, rather than to be used as the sole means of propulsion. And lastly it's not driven by pricks.

Both after 7.30 at night so probably not technicians and neither with garage decals on them so probably not courtesy cars. One was out on a nice stretch of road and actually looked like it moved over to get a nicer line into the corner. Actually had the look of someone out on a blast but suppose it could have been someone running late.

Suspect company car is the right answer but even still don't think a blast round Scottish country roads would be enjoyable in such a thing.

I managed to get my Prius Hire car down to 26mpg in Italy. Less than I could have got my M5 up to with a similar level of determination! smile

Got to get to the destination before the battery goes flat. Obvious, really.

The UK has manual only CR-Z's (CVT box isnt available as an option) so unless its an import it will be a manual.

Also, they are great fun to drive and feel a lot quicker than what the figures suggest smile

I thought it was funny when I got overtaken by a prius going around what I believe to be about 125mph on the motorway, I wasn't exactly sticking around either!

Some mates had all their company BMW's replaced by Priuses (Pri-ie?) to make the company look more eco friendly and to drop the company fuel bill

They were livid and proceeded to wring the fking neck out of them at every given opportunity, they managed to keep most of them in the low 20's, coming from 320d's this was a bit of a shock to the fleet manager who proceeded to stop this experiment forthwith

I believe they now have 123d's hehe

So OP I would hazard that is your answer
