Complete waste of time or does it actually make a meaningful difference to running temperatures?

My MX5 tends to generate a lot of heat, especically if I'm in the zone keeping it on boost. It doesnt overheat, I have an oil cooler and a uprated radiator but in my quest to keep things reliable I'm wondering if a bottle of Water Wetter is a cost effective way of ensuring coolant temps stay nice and low, especially on track?

I remember reading somewhere, many moons ago, that due to some of the chemicals used it can be quite hard on plastic and rubber hoses and is an absolute st of a job to flush it out.

I'd advise sorting out your cooling issues in the traditional way, a good healthy cooling system, uprated if needed.

I think it removes a lot of the water tension you get with plain old water, so it gets better surface contact with the radiators, engine block, etc. Of course if it does that I've no idea.

First make sure your coolant has been recently changed.

If that doesn't lower temps, either get an up-rated ally rad, or a bigger oil cooler (of fit it somewhere it gets some air-flow).

AFAIK WW does work, but it would be my last choice of mitigating engine temps.

Got both of them. I dont have an issue, I was just going to add it as a precaution.

What sort of temps are you seeing on track? Running hard oil will be well into 3 figures in a lot of track cars.

If you are worried fit an aux oil or water gauge with a tell-tale light. Although I've heard it works, I don't think WW makes a massive difference TBH.

I doubt you'd need it chap.
With an oil cooler and uprated rad, you should be comfortably within limits even on track.
It's probably overkill for the amount of power you're pushing out at the moment. smile

Never heard of it used in cars before but I don't think its snake oil.

I have come across it before used in computer CPU water cooling. I think it does help lower temps, and if I recall coreectly, it also stop algae growing in your waterblock!!!
