Hi all,

Is it just me or is the current used mx5 market really slow? My mk1 has been up for sale for about a month now and it's still here. Anyone else having or had similar issues with theirs or is it just me?

I'm looking for an MX5, but they keep selling before I get a chance to view etc. frown

I know, but plenty people post links to their ad for cars not selling to get some feedback, if it's a Pistonheads ad anyway (I'm assuming that) then for a mod to take offence would be harsh IMO.

The problem with MX5s is the sheer number of them for sale.
If yours doesn't stand out, it maybe easy for potential purchasers to miss it.

Very good pics, and a good honest description is what you need. If it's standard it maybe a little bit more difficult to shift than a well modified one.

It could just be over priced though. wink

You'll find that as we see them or other posters report them we remove the thread or link, regardless of whether it is a link to an ad on PistonHeads or not.

I've found the ad and I can't see much wrong. It's intelligible clear and gives sensible details. If I wanted a mk1 now I would certainly put it on a short list. The price seeeeeeems reasonable assumimg all is as it should be. Have you had callers but no one coming to look or just a deafening silence?

I have had a few calls and a couple of people were going to view but didn't show. I couldn't really afford to be without a car at the moment so foolishly bought another thinking that a nice mx5 would sell quick this time of year.

Sold mine last week.

At £2.5k I had a few bites for 2 days, but I slashed it to £2k to ensure it was gone by the weekend.

I sold it same day I dropped to £2k to the first person to drive over to see it. I could have probably sold it 5 times over judging by the calls / emails I got that day.

Maybe I should drop my price then. It's currently 2295 as I was looking to get at lease 2000 for it. May I ask how much you actually took for your car?

And if I'd seen that at £2k I'd have bought it too - it's got everything already done that I'm planning on doing to mine. Same colour as mine too so I might even have got away with it with the OH hehe

I couldn't! There's about 20 pages of mk.1s for sale so lots and lots of competition, and I'd imagine many won't appreciate the cost of putting a shabby car right or want to buy one to 'do-up' so will look at the cheaper end of the scale, so yours gets lost up at £2295 (couldn't find it by price either) - I know when I was looking I filtered out all cars over £2k as it was a big pyschological barrier to pay over £2k for a 2nd car/fun car.

Have you tried advertising locally, gumtree is becoming very popular and I looked there when I was buying.

Yes, but IIRC you started a thread about parting from it, didn't you?

Well I've dropped it to £2000no offers. I think it's a bargain at that and I can't really afford to let it go for less. Fingers crossed I have Matt UKs success.

In general I think that there are too many overpriced rust buckets around and standing out may be tricky.

Looking at the ad I would have a couple of questions.

As a uk car what if any LSD?
Shocks? original? aftermarket?
t/belt?
What condition are the sills and arches in? I now assume that if it isn't mentioned they must be rusty.
No air con?
Leather? not clear in the pics

mohair hood is good, but I'd rather get an import with ac and torsen lsd from a dealer for the same money.

Oh, as an aside, looking at you in your orange T-shirt, you haven't got the hang of the whole 'using reflected pic of self to sell' thing have you? Next time use the g/f in a bikini. ;-)
