First of all, just out of interest, do you keep one in your car?

But the main point of this thread was to ask if anyone could recommend a way of securely mounting a fire extinguisher in a car.

I've had a quick look about and cant find anything along the lines of the pics bellow for car mounting fire extinguishers, any help would be much appreciated!

Ideally without having to chop or drill anything in the car:

Cheers! beer

Yes I do, given I fitted the engine myself and it's not really supposed to be in the car I figure it's liable to go up at any moment.

Drilled some holes in the floot, painted over them to stop them rusting and screwed the bracket to the floor. The painted over the bolts underneath the car with red oxide to be sure it's not going to rust.

Job's a good'un!

I have two in the van but they are screwed into the wood panelling. Could you cable tie the bracket around the metal supports for the seats like in your picture?

Sorry I forgot to say in original post.

I dont really want to be chopping bits here and there and drilling holes and stuff in the car considering its only done 29 miles!

Hmm could do! I'll have a look and see if the wall bracket I have for my original f/e is suitable and can be cable-tied.

Really would like something along the lines of the photos though, something that will mean the fire extinguisher is securely fastened in, I dont want it flying about the cabin in case of a departure from the black stuff as well as under exuberant track cornering & braking.

I would really like it to not rattle about and make any noises, just be securely held as in the photos, thanks for the suggestion though!

Something like this would probably do?

Make sure whatever you fit is VERY well secured. Anything 1KG+ is going to fking hurt if it is flying about in a crash and hits you.

I can remeber my grandfather's Jaguar MK10 having a small fire extinguisher mounted on the C pillar.

The wifes Grand Voyager has one mounted in the boot. Standard manufacturers fit.
Also has a chrysler first aid kit in the drawer under the passenger seat.

I have one in every car I own. I had a car go up in flames once and I was able to extinguish the fire with remarkably little damage considering how big the fire was. If I hadn't had an extinguisher the car would have been reduced to a pool of molten plastic very quickly.

This is what we use in the cops.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1KG-POWDER-FIRE-EXTINGUISHER...

Its mounted in the boot, against the top of the back seat, so in the event of a crash, it isnt flying around the passanger compartment.

In fairness, i've used it once, and it was total crap. Easier to let trumpton turn up to deal with it.

Thats the one I have at the moment, minus the bracket and anywhere to clip it on.

My original plan was to have it securely mounted in the cabin, but on second thoughts, no matter how securely it is fitted, it would suck in an accident for something C.1kg and metal to be flying about in the cabin.

Nope should really get one..... but if you're car does catch light 9 times out of ten it will be electrical and there's no point trying to put out an electrical fire unless you can isolate the supply.
