HI,

Can anyone advise me if an early E39 wheel fit onto my E46 320cd Msport?
The reason I'm asking is that I have a chance to buy a set of steel wheels with winter tyres on which were fitted onto an early E39.
They are 225/60/R15 and so I don't think there will be any clearance issues aslong as the ofset is ok.
I really don't want to get stuck again this winter and so trying to sort out a solution early.

Any advice on the fitment would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Offset is around 15-20 on the 5 series, and around 40-50 on the 3 series, so they would be fine, just sit too far in, although my not clear the brakes, but the hub is different on the E39 to every other BMW, it is bigger and the wheel will need a hubcentric spacer.

Not worth the hassle imho.

HUH?!, nono , The offset is completely wrong for the E46 and the tyres will stick out too far from the wheel arch lip and rub. This is the very reason why genuine E46 M3 rear wheels will not fit a standard E46.

Have a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offset_%28wheel%29
and here: http://www.gruppeb.com/BMWwheels/fitments/

Then try this site: http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=245&amp...

If you put the same tyre and wheel information into the relevant boxes but change the offset amount, it'll show you how the wheel will move in the wheel arch.

Absolutely right, I have changed more sets of wheels on BMWs than I can remember, and have said what you have said hundreds of times to others, so don't know what I was thinking above.

The E39 hub is 74.1mm though, and just about every other BMW including E60 5 series, is a 72.6mm hub, so you would have a hard time fitting them any way. AC Schnitzer do an adapter ring.

M3 wheels will however fit an E90 and E91 pre LCI, but not an E92 or E93 pre or post LCI.

My wifes E91 with genuine M3 wheels fitted. ET29 rear on a 9½" rim.
