M10 Noble on Track
Discussion
Well what can say. What a time. It went so fast. Either myself and Andrew or myself and Paul had a total of 105 minutes on track and covered approx 127 miles. Thus an average about 72mph. I'm pretty certain we didn't reach 90mph at all. But I wasn't watching the speedo.
I read somewhere that the F1 circuit is 3.194 miles thus 39 laps in all. Whilst a lot of my time was spent looking in my rear view mirrors and deciding when to indicate right, in no way did this lessen the enjoyment. Hopefully we didn't slow others up too much. But when we did, no doubt enjoyment was had by all when accelerating out of a bend and past us. Particularly one of the radicals which was soooo close!
The car is now over 12 years old and in the 7 years of my ownership the only significant work has been a new exhaust. Otherwise it is, as it was, when it left Lee's 'shed' in April 1999, with '168 bhp/162 lbs torque' as noted in the Noble Moy specification of the day. We had no issues with it at all and nothing special was done to the car in preparation for Silverstone. As far as I was concerned we were pushing this car hard (well to the limited limits of my ability) all the time. The car did feel a bit looser on the 125 mile journey home. For the better I think.
Apart from seeing the M600s closing very very fast probably my highlight was actually overtaking 3 M12s, not to mention Adrian's, which virtually disappeared in smoke right in front of me. Hopefully not too expensive, Adrian?
At one point an MX5 (I think) appeared to be overtaking me on the inside of a bend and as I had lost sight of it, as I approached the bend, I didn't turn in. I drove straight on, but no harm done.
The M10 is harder to drive than an GTO3R because the steering is quite heavy. My red one is light in comparison. This made the tight corners quite an effort. And of course there are no turbo's so there is no push in the back type feeling. The suspension is fantastic as the car stays very flat and grip is superb. Or...maybe I wasn't pushing hard enough. But then again this car is part of Noble history, the first customer car. I have to be aware of that.
I know there would have been times on track, when in one camera shot, it would have been possible to get all three Noble models. Hopefully someone might post it up.
Chris.
