Old Skool Supergoose BMX custom build

After gettng my Cube stolen, I need some wheels.
I cant afford to replace the MTB so Ive opted to jump on the Old Skool BMX bandwagon (its not turning out that much cheaper!).
I was right into my BMX when I was a young bloke and even did a couple of ill-fated races at our local circuit.
When I was a lad, the cool kids had Redline, Kuwahara or Mongoose. It so happens a mate had an '83 Supergoose frame and forks he was willing to part with, so that made a great starting point. Ridiculously, after returning to the scene to finally have my dream bike that my parents couldnt afford to get me when I was younger, I still cant afford it. A Kuwahara Laserlite frame and forks appears to be one of the more expensive you can buy and usually only from the states.
So the 'goose it is. Its not a concours frame and the rear dropouts are a touch ropey. So I will have those repaired and get the frame powder coated white and rather than build a show bike, go for a nice looking rider. I already have a replacement decal set for the Supergoose, some white Skyway Tuff IIs, a white Viscount Dominator saddle and one original MX1000 brake caliper and lever in black.
Im going to stick with white, some black and chrome/silver for the details. Renthal bars and layback seat post etc
I will add pictures to this thread as it comes together for those who are interested. Im looking forward to it. Never spent so much time on ebay in all my days and learning a few things about getting stuff in from the US.
Cant wait to get down the prom at Bournemouth on it.

Unlike many of my half-baked ideas, this one has not been forgotten or abandoned due to ADD or lack of funds. Which is refreshing.
Ive been scouring radbmx and ebay, had some excellent advice and experience and surprisingly few stitch ups (only 1, which was sort of my own fault).
The parts are coming together nicely. Im now only short a chain, seat post, a stem and a couple of inner tubes before I build it up.
Once Its all gethered together, Ill lay it all out on a blanket on the lawn and take a picture of it. Mainly 'cause thats what the pros do over on radbmx.
There are great people involved in this old school bmx lark and also some right wierdos. And the politics, given we're talking about "kids bikes" is staggering. For the size of the forum and the number of posts, proportionately it makes PH look like Sunday School.
No doubting though, there is a hell of an industry built around it.

NOS DC MX901s (best bargain so far, got them about 70 quid cheaper than theyre worth somehow)

Mongoose 1-piece crank

NOS SR MP 470 pedals
OR SR 468 OE pedals (bit scraped up but they were what was specced originally)
Looking forward to chucking it together. Got a real hankering to start work on a Kuwahara and/or a Redline now too. But so far this build has cost me 500 notes and its only a medium quality rider. So this one might have to go to make way for the other two. Ill see how I find the ownership/riding experience but seeing a Laserlite or RL frame come up does get me a bit excited.

Tonight I started this, finally. I now have the chain and only need the seat post to finish. But its never that easy is it?
The new Tuffs (geniune but re-released) have axles that are too big for the old bikes fork drop=outs. And theyre way too wide. So I had to source and replace the front one and cut down the rear one.
The bottom bracket is 25 yrs old and isnt as smooth as it could be, and the nut doesnt fit the one-piece crank. Need to source another one that does.
Gave up pissing about with the frame. As it turns out, Ive toasted so much cash on nice bits for it, the frame and forks are now the worst part. So much for on a budget.

Have just sourced a Pro Class stem from an '82 Supergoose. these are good because they use bolts into inset nuts to tighten them, rather than steel bolts into the alu stem that might strip with a ham-fisted amateur spanner monkey like me. And theyre the OE for my bike, which is nice.
Ideally Id like 1.75 section tyres front and back too, although fat front and skinny rear is more period correct. Also got a nice set of re-produced white Mongoose pads. But the outers need filling out with fatter padding. Phuctifeyeno where I will get that from, but thats a cosmetic issue.
Also just picked up a 20 yr old black and silver chain, which should look the nuts.

My Californian is nearly done, I'm not going for a super-accurate build on this one. It's an 84 Cali on Pro-Class wheels, Mongoose Headset (rare apparently), Mongoose Snowflake Chainwheel, Elina UL, Mongoose Expert Bars with an SR Stem. No brakes yet but will probably go for rear only DC MX1000.
I need to get it done in the next week or so because I've got a couple of Burners arriving today (one of which might prove to be VERY interesting).
Is anyone else interested in this stuff?
