I have a fortnight at the end of August for holidays, and, as an advantage, my boss is wanting to accompany me! His idea is a boozy fortnight abroad,, however, I would much rather spend 14 days/nights exploring some of Europe's finer roads (even if its only in a Focus!) I'd love to hear of any suggestions people have, and I'll see if we can't string 'em all together. The only thing set in stone is setting off from Wakefield... apart from that, I don't care, as long as the roads are good...

Why would it be an advantage for your boss to join you? Is she fit?

How sure are you? Or will he demand payment in kind?

Done a few fortnight blasts, depends what you want to see and any roads you particularly want to 'bag' .

In a 14 day schlepp it is also nice to have a couple of days off so consider attractions you may like to visit en route, I am always guilty of devizing a route then finding stuff to do and detouring, it drives swmbo mad. (especially if it means she is dragged out of bed at 8am and doesn't get to her hotel alledgedly 100 mile away until midnight rofl)

Stuff to think about:

Lambo/ Ferrari factory tour (nice roads round a bout and easy to take in the tower of Pisa on the way to or from)
Couple of Alpine coasters in Austria and Germany that are worth a hour or two ( Imst, Todtnau)
Grossglockner - day walking over the Glacier
Furka pass, belvedere hotel, walking in a glacier
Meiringen, Gorge walking, reichenbach falls
Funicular at Handegg, (travels beyond vertical)
Eagles nest
Piz Gloria
Trummelbach falls, Lauterbrunnen

Oh and if you are hooning over passes for a fortnight make sure your tyres and even more so your brakes are 100%

I feel i should point you to the Top Gear episode where they tried to find the greatest driving road in europe, (Davos to Stelvio) and if the boss really is paying why not cruise on down to monte carlo while you're at it, lovely scenery down there plus a race track you can actually drive on anytime you like

Gettin a full service before we go, so no worries there. Not so sure about these detours/attractions though, I mean, they involve walking...

Turns out it's cheaper to drive to Canterbury, stay in travelodge then go dover -> calais, than to overnight from hull -> zeebrugge, so starting point is calais...

I don't think I will be visiting Monte Carlo as well as the Alpine routes, seems a wee bit much.

Wondering now, am I better finding a base in the Alps and wondering arond from there, or just wandering around and finding beds as I go?? Or combining the two?! I really dont know!
