I have bought an imported alfa spider, is there anyway of telling what year it was made? I can look at books etc but is this the only way?

Do you know roughly how old it is? Is it a phase-1, phase-2 or phase-3 design?

Assuming its not too new, you could email me the VIN & I'll look it up on the Alfa parts CD that I have - should give the build date

Should say declared year of manufacture on the UK Reg. document

Hi Mustard, does the date also appear on an imported car?

(sorry Ted)
Try www.gtvv6.com - lots of info on all 916 model GTVs and Spiders - although the site appears to be down today

Yes on the reg document it will state two things

1. Date first registed in the UK, it will also state 'Previously registered and/or used overseas'
2. Declared year of maunfacture

It is on the 2nd point the appropriate age related registration prefix is issued

Oh, and the first question I should have asked is: Are we talking about the current shape Spider, rather than "The Graduate"-type model? The CD I have is only for the 916 series (mid 90's to whenever the CD was produced).

Its a series 3, Guilia 105, which I believe is a "graduate" type car.

Check out AlfaBB.com for more specific older alfa information. Mostly US based but good guys with a large repository of information about these cars, If you quote your VIN to the forum someone will know when it was built. You can also ask Alfa directly - the contact details are on the AlfaBB website somewhere. Do a search for Elvira (she's the archivist at AR in Italy)

Phone up your local Alfa Dealer and ask them to do a Sigi on it
