Remember the two young girls killed on the A46 last year

Have a read of this www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=59380&command=displayContent&sourceNode=58907&contentPK=10001165

They are going to have a crack down on speeders the majority are going to be caught at around 10mph over in a 70mph zone [it was last time I drove the road]

The truth of the crash that caused the deaths is the Idiots wher pissed and racing Plod or a civy in a van will not help much

there are some pictures of the road on this page http://homepage.ntlworld.com/paul.jones37/East%20Yorkshire%20group%20WSCC.htm

Just need a better policy for road safety and some plod out patroling and doing their job well and being liked for a good job done well.

Just in case you are traveling the A46 where they are talking about it near the BMW garage on yourway to Cleethorpes.

Paul.

a depressingly predictable response from the local authorities
as usual though - when the local council are seen to be doing SOMETHING - even if its in the wrong direction, its applauded.

What ever the council does to improve the road it will never bring back Amy and Kayla.

Everyday as I pass the bench at school it brings back memories and every time I pass the spot where they were so tradically taken from us it brings back more memories.

Something should have been done years ago.

RIP Amy and Kayla

no the truth of the crash is that ONE of them was pissed but they were racing and trying to out do each other to see who had the faster and better car.

Im sorry to hear of the loss of your friends.

Wouldnt it be better if the council were to promote safety campaigns that really worked though like better driver education.
Learning to drive the car in a safer manner would have given them more appreciation of the risks involved.

Sadly there's little that can be done about the stupidity of some people.

I think it would be a good idea if the speed kills, impact kills and never drink and drive messages were put across during driving lessons. When i learnt to drive none of that was ever mentioned, you were just taught how to pass a test. A lot more emphasis on driving in a safe manner should be on drivers when they are learning.

Stupidity = uneducated.

Better driving education may have prevented this from happening.

This is a touchy thread and Im trying to be diplomatic. Please dont think I am not sympathetic of what has happened. We all want better road safety.

Agreed 100%. But first thing my driving instructor (Germany) said to me was "You are in charge and fully responsible of machine, and simple mistakes can kill you and someone else!" Never occurred to me that English ADIs omit this in training until my cousins' children learned how to drive in this country.

But - when I start ranting off about improving your training, toughing up your L-Test - some people think that passing the L-test is the end of the learning phase. It is not. It is the start of big lifteime learning curve - like your job, career, even leisure activities.

We should be looking at ways to motivate people to continue developing their skills - same as we do in our workplaces. After all, we keep saying how the car manufacturers have introduced this and that safety feature - but has anyone been trained how to actually use them properly? Paulie's site has set ball rolling in that direction with a dedicated forum on improving driver standards - and three others of this family are posting some ideas there.

The "Think!" adverts should also bring in other elements - applying COAST, learning how to use ABS and the vehicle's safety controls properly, making people realise that one drink leads to two and then four, and you are illegal before you realise it

My sincerest condolences on your personal tragedy. Am Mama of 4 - do understand - and to lose your child by such senseless behaviour.... Also - family has had its own losses - one through dodgy artic. truck hitting him, and one almost (me!).

I think you are a very brave woman and I respect you totally.

Hi. I'm in Y10 and me and Kayla were fairly good mates. As I pass the bench everyday its kind of hard to put to the back of your mind but as I pass I pause and give a moment just thinging about things. Same if I am on the bypass.

Someone needs to turn round to the council and say look if you don't do this one day it could be you. They would rather spend their money on something else rather than something that is more important.

Paul, The pics on that page show 4 lanes seperated by a grass verge in an NSL, there is no Central Reservation, does this not make the limit 60?

See FiF's posting on www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?p=2&f=10&t=104404&h=0& for a definition of a DC.

FiF said:
In short for a road to be classed as a dual there has to be a permanent "construction" between the carriageways travelling in opposite directions.

Comment the word construction is in " " because a grass strip will suffice, ie no need for hard kerbing , barriers etc.

The road shown in the photographs is, by the definition above, a DC and if the NSL applies, then the limit for cars is 70mph.

The Laceby Bypass is one of the worst roads in the area. Alot of people speed and when my Dad has been doing 40 or 50mph you get someone who comes past at 80+. I know of some one who was stopped for speeding and the police asked them weather they would like the re-education or the points. If they do this everytime someone is going to go for the re-education but this doesnt stop them doing it again and again.

Are there stats which indicate KSIs caused by speeding on this road? If so then it's appropriate to consider some speed control measures like smiley signs or cameras. If not then it would be far more appropriate to take action on the real causes of the KSIs, which could be drunk driving, lack of concentration, racing, etc.

I remember when I learned to drive that it was my father who pointed out (in his "gentle way" :-)) the dangers of being in control of a ton of metal, and not the driving instructor. There are many things which are parental responsibilities, and which we cannot afford to leave solely to teachers of any sort. I am giving the same messages to my children, 6 and 15, and we regularly talk of driving standards we see on the road. My dear 6-year-old even asked my wife recently, "are you going to call them a pillock, Mummy?"!
