I bet he is - after all, his son has demonstrated his ingenuity, intelligence and self-confidence, and has managed to get the school to review the policy (no doubt to ban boys from wearing skirts rather than allow boys to wear shorts though rolleyes). He only wouldn't be proud of him if he had some hang-up along the lines of "son in skirt = son is gay OMG! = bad OMG FFS!!!", but only a particularly stupid person would think that.

OK fair comment. What with getting it in the media and all.
Strange turnaround from my school days when shorts were supposed to be compulsory for first and second years. Many of us ignored the rules then too.

Brilliant! Unfair uniform rules is something that really annoys me in the workplace, why do men (in some work places) have to roast in shirts, ties and trousers while women get away with wearing all sorts of lengths when it comes to skirts and blouses. Good on him for showing some initiative, especially in schools where there isn't likely to be any air conditioning.

Ironically, when I was at school we had to fight to be allowed long trousers instead of shorts!

Fair play to him, he's got some balls. Given that though, maybe a skirt isn't the best option for him.

If he had to wear shorts he'd be complaining about that too.

Give him a cuff round the head and detention. He should be learning to spell, not appearing on TV beaing a smartalec.

Good to see that his parents are supporting him rather than telling him to do as he is told by his teachers. Teachers are not undermined enough by parents these days.

One of my Rugby team mates is a teacher at the school in question and pointed out that the actual rule for girls is they have to wear tights with skirts so wanted to enforce this on the lad.

No quite as individual, but my school had a similar'ish situation.

There was a crackdown on the exact requirement of the school uniform. Now I'm a lowly teacher who is more interested in pupil's progress in a lesson than what colour socks they are wearing.

I agree that school uniforms should be adhered to and they are a very important part of a school. However, when the senior leadership team (SLT) had a crackdown on socks, insisting they had to be blue or black, some pupils challenged this.

The point they raised was that, at no point in all the literature pertaining to the school, does it actually mention the colour of socks.

Within a few days, every single child had the most ridiculous colour of socks they could find and wore them with pride.

The SLT had to back down as the kids had highlighted that there was no written request for dark socks.

I'd say the majority of teachers were, albeit not loudly, fully behind the pupils and impressed with their approach.

My thoughts exactly.

I heard an interview with the lad yesterday, and he "read the school guidelines, and exploited a loophole"! Fair play to the boy!

Even more ironically, after years of insisting girls had to wear skirts, some schools are making girls wear trousers as they've had so much hassle over skirt lengths.
