I just dropped something in my expansion tank, so took it off to retrieve said item. While the tank is out, I think the engine bay looks much better.

Can you safely remove the header tank and if so, how?

Think its got to be the highest point of the engine bay?

No you can't. It's an expansion tank i.e. as the water heats up it expands and pushes coolant into the expansion tank. As it cools again it sucks coolant back into the system.

As long as its the highest point in the coolant system. Behind the scuttle panel maybe? You may get away with a smaller one

Yes.

I have seen some guys (particularly those running a coldside s/c) with the expansion tank on the other side of the engine bay.

Woudn't work for me, thats where my turbo sits frown
