Found it hanging from a wiring loom under the distributer when i was changing the thermostat.

just had a look at mine it is exactly the same just cable tied to the harness

air flow meter, it plugs on to part of the loom. but mine is a 400 hotwire, so may be different.

It is not connected on my wedge ('86 350i flapper), spare wire in the loom....
Nothing to worry about if everything is working
