I'm looking into buying a GT Coupe 3.2 V6 sometime soon. I am after any experiences with the car, highs and lows. What to look out for, running costs and so on.

Thanks for your help!!

Hi

I have just purchased a 2006 Alfa GT 3.2 V6 and haven’t had chance to get out for a good run in it yet, so may not be able to answer your questions as well as the long term owners but I’ll have a go.

Before buying my car I did a good bit of research online and chatted to owners of GTA’s with the same engine to try and give myself an insight into the highs and lows of owning the V6 engine. Basically what I found was that any car I was to look at I was to make sure that the car had a good service history making sure that the cambelt and belt tensioner had been done on the car, these should be done at approx 50,000 miles or after 5 years. Also check the oil levels on the car, if the oil level is below minimum it could be a sign that the car has been neglected and low oil will lead to crankshaft damage. Check the clutch, mine seems to be quite heavy but make sure it bites immediately and all gears can be selected easily if not new clutches can be expensive. The brakes are quite good also on the GT they will have the 330mm Brembo’s as opposed to the 305’s from pre 03 147 and 156 GTA’s. Some owners also recommend the Q2 Diff upgrade for the cars also.

Fuel consumption as I expected is quite poor, on the way home from picking the car up my average consumption on the Nav+ indicated 17.6 mpg, but I’d say you could get it to average about 20 – 25 mpg driving easily. Also tax is high at around £400 for 12 months.

The interior of the car feels well put together. The seats are supportive and comfortable, the space in the rear is enough to fit 2 adults comfortably and the driving position is quite good. There is a decent sized boot for golf clubs, suitcases etc.

Have a look at some of these buyers’ guides and common problem pages, as they are quite helpful.

All in all they can be expensive to run but it’s a small price to pay for a car that looks this good, sounds great and goes fantastic plus it’s an Alfa, what more could you want smile

I had one years ago, great cars that still look awesome on the road. Heavy at the front & may need suspension upgrades if still on OE.

Great cars.

I bought a 3.2 new in 07, got a full refund after a couple of months due to various engine and electrical issues. Also, the interior leather quality was poor with wear showing up after a few weeks. The various external panels were very thin and flimsy, the paint finish wasn't good, the fog lights didn't seal properly - etc.

However, when it was on the road it was absolutely fabulous, really strong engine, great sound and the quick ratio steering made driving sook much fun.

I vowed never to own another but just waiting for a Giulietta QV to arrive!
