Very tempted by this, 3 litre SLK, £15K.

But is it considered a girls car ?

Yes, although I can see the attraction.

I believe a Boxster is better in every way.

Yes but so are all the decent cars, it's mainly the "men" forced into boring family cars by their wives that say these things so buy the Mercedes if you like it!

My mum has one, and she is a 50 year old teaching assistant.

It is a lovely car though - the airscarf thing is brilliant

Considered a girl's car? Well yes, but do you really care!?!? If you want one, get it.

You can get a 350 for less than £15k or an SLK55 for a few grand more. Now the 55 is definitely not a girls car.

I'd say yes, like any stereotyped 'girls car' it doesnt stop it being a good car.

Personally i find the lights and the front end in general hideous, always have. boxedin

I'd imagine the running costs on the 55 aren't for girls either... wink

Who gives a toss!

Firstly, anybody who says something like that to you if you own it is a tt and their opinion is worth less than nothing.

Secondly, you shouldn't be giving it a moments consideration what other people will think of it, if you like it then get it.

Personally I'd avoid it because it's a Mercedes, and I don't like them and they sponsor BRAKE, however you don't know me so my opinion should be irrelevant! I have to admit though it's a good looking car.

it makes sense, when for budget, you want a sound rwd convertible that has to live outside 365 days a year - perhaps even on public road.

so before classing it as a girls car it would depend on circumstances.

could be a girls car if you cited main criteria as needing an airscarf equipped auto only.

Agree with all of that! People who label them a girls car probably feel a little 'uncomfortable' seeing a bloke driving one. This, in my opinion says more about them than the person who is enjoying his car.

Err - I know a few 'girls' better able to afford the running costs than 'real men'...

All SLKs are girls cars, even with V8s and RWD... wink

I'm a girl, I like cars - see my profile ... so whats wrong with girl's cars? wink

Not an SLK fan, personally bit too new for me - the AMGs look quite aggressive IMO though! smile

I would say yes, but I would also have one. But I have owned "girls cars" in the past; Toyota MR2, Ford Puma.

YEs, I agree with most comments above,, I don't really care what others think but was interested in the general opinion here.

I will go have a look at it tomorrow I think.

Due to a change in work circumstances I need a car to drive to from work (around 10 miles each way) and to a vendors premises (around 30 miles each way) a couple of times a week, on nice a-roads. Tried a Z4 coupe, it was OK, and am tempted by a Boxster S but it would have to be quite a bit older.

Others being considered are 350Z, and 996, though again it would be older and so possibly a money pit.

Thanks
