My BMW E39 M5 AND SOME MODDING
Discussion
Hi guys.
I thought I would start a thread on my beloved M5 since I enjoy reading the readers cars thread.
Ok I purchased her in March 2008 for £13000 as a replacement for my superb e36 M3evo. she had 107k on the clock but was by far the best condition M5 I found being a facelifted 01 car with every option like TV, DSP, sat nav etc etc.
Here is a pic taken just after I got her home.

With the M3

First up was trip to Bexley Motor Sport where new brakes all round were fitted and a 4 wheel alignment was carried out.

Now it was time to let the V8 breath so a set of Haywood and Scott rear boxes were fitted. (thanks to my mate Gromit for doing this work).

Then off to Surrey Rolling Road where she made some great power.

Then I had it detailed which brought out a great finish.

Then I modified the front grill to allow air in to cool the brakes.

How she looked at that point

Some new pedals !

Then fitted an Intravee to allow an ipod to work with the standard set up.

At a Pistonheads meet in Kent.

Some new wheels - 19" BBS LM reps. Wanted these for a while

Then the big one. A trip to Evolve resulted me in ordering new Bilstein coilovers, a full Evolve equal length headers and exhaust with titanium burnt tips, Alpha N induction, intakes, every bush replaced, clutch, flywheel, AP Racing big brake kit etc etc. This lost cost the best part of £10k and took 4 months to do but believe me the car now drives like new. Not a single rattle, bump or squeak. The invoice was 8 pages long !

I also imported a rare Dinan strut brace from the USA.

Thats about where I am at thee moment with the car. I am waiting for the intakes to be fitted and then we should be looking at around 440 to 450 bhp.
I will keep the thread updated so enjoy.

Only thing i'd change - paint the brake ducts black.
Besides that, looks great!
Got a new grill on the way with ready fitted ducts so it will look a little different and more 'factory' but I do like the alloy look plus these were home made and my first attempt. Besides that, looks great!
Also a Hamann carbon fibre front lip spoiler will soon be added too.

That is an awesome spec fella, but she goes like stink now, and handles to go with it! Only change I would have made would have been to get the brake ducts in the front valance painted/powdercoated/anodised or whatever black, as for me the silver detracts a bit from the look of the car. But given the rest of the car, I think it is absolutely superb. Lovely choice of wheel too

I agree, but the car itself is still damn cool!

Lovely car... but Nankangs?!?!! On an M5 that you've splashed out thousands on?
Yes that is a sore point but when I purchased the alloys, the seller gave me a great price for the originals and the only tyres he had in the sizes I want were these. As soon as they are worn then some proper rubber will be fitted but I have drove the car so little that they are still like new.Don't worry this car won't go near a track with them and once the front end respray is completed then I will sort it. I don't even drive it in the rain !
