Not easy to tell from the video, but there do seem to be a number of convenient fields next to the road which would have been my preferred option.

Nothing ruins a well executed forced landing more than being flattened by an 18-wheeler shortly afterwards. Apart from flattening a biker yourself in the process, of course.

In the UK, there would be a lot more questions asked about the choice of the road vs. the adjacent field.

That's a great report - more for what it doesn't say than what it does!! I take it, the undertone is that the AAIB might think that he flew soo low that his wing hit the river (during an amazing super low knife edge pass, presumably...) and ditched the aircraft?

Those who've been watching ice pilots will see that landing on highways is a method taught to pilots in Alaska, and is shown in that programme, with the aircraft mixing in with the traffic.
