If your gardener comes "included" in your rent, but then doesn't continue his services (amicably), would you expect any reflection of this in the rental price?

No.

You agreed to pay X per month for the house including the gardener, it is your choice to exclude that part, not your landlord's.

If the landlord had said "I'm not going to supply a gardener anymore" then you could reasonably expect a rent reduction.

I am in the same situation. As far as I know he has only came round three times in three years and one of those time he was just sat in the garden with some random woman.

You can never tell what he has actually done and its always the day after I have done the garden anyway.

I just don't bother with him anymore. Strangely enough he is supposed to be coming round today.

It was posed to us as, "Are you still happy to have the gardener?" without us mentioning it.

I'm not particularly bothered either way - I've set eyes on the man once, and would be hard pushed to tell you what he does other than mow the lawn and tip grass onto the cars in the garage.

It was merely cynical idle wondering on my part - if they do this to all their clients, they stand to make quite the pot of money off those who say "no" to the gardener included in their rent, surely?

It might be worth registering the fact that you are not responsible for the maintenance of the garden with your landlord or agent. The fact that a gardener was included means that the landlord is responsible for keeping the garden tidy - not you. If the gardener has gone, there should be no liability on your part, at the end of the tenancy, to make good the garden. If you see what I mean.
