Bit lumpy

noticed that the chim has been a little lumpy for the last couple of days. Getting jittery as the le mans run isnt too far on the horizon and doing another 1k miles or so through france and spain afterwards.

Gave the TP a good clean but it wasnt that dirty to be honest. Doesnt seem to make that much difference. The HT leads look a little tired and its due to go in for a service on saturday. Any thoughts on a cure? new leads, plugs, dizzy cap?

Mine got a bit lumpy when the coil was dieing.

Has yours got hot recently?

yeah, does seem to be running hot. Fitted the leven cooling kit in advance of LM too but still seems to be a little high. Going to add water wetter after a coolant change during the service to see if that helops and mechanic is instructed to go over the cooling system with a fine toothcomb to avoid a repition of last year's "keep an eye on the temp gauge" weekend.

did you find it ran cooler after that?

Ours gets a little lumpy just before it's due a service, usually when it is within 1000 miles of the due time. Very odd but a good reminder.

what do they do at service that resolves the problem I am wondering..

Clean the Stepper Motor I suppose. Never really asked, the car just comes back so much better I often wonder if they have given me the right one back.

sorry, said TP rather than stepper motor. cleaned it last night and its made sweet FA difference.

Oh right. I did wonder. Not technical enough to help further mate. Perhaps it's having a bit of a fit at the thought of being converted in to a Bling-mobile

had to change my coil on sat, it was running very lumpy

- just found that the plug extenders are old and worn (rusty) £3 a piece from Tim at ACT

the hT leads already replaced

What type of coil does yours have Squire Shnozz? The standard (unmarked) one from TVR is a bit poo....my TVR coil had only 2K miles on it when Mark Adams swapped it for a Bosch unit and you could hear the bits rattling inside it already. The Bosch coils are much better, though you might already have one?

Changing the leads to Magnecors helps to smooth the engine out I found, and they look good too!

cheers for that mate. dont know what coil it has in it but will have a look. Glad you posted that as my mechanic leaves it to me to order the required parts and if it looks like the coil needs replacing i would have probably just bought the off the shelf TVR product. Will have a word with him as he has the everyday hack in at the mo and picks up the TVR saturday for a few pre-le mans jobs and a service

magnecor leads are bloody expensive arent they? Not too worried about the under hood looks since Craigs cerb wins the award for most anal engine bay in teh hants region and leads wont challenge that Just want it to run smoothly at a reasonable price.

When I was cleaning the stepper motor the other evening I noticed that some of mine look a bit knackered. Will order some new ones of those too then. Of course with them shades it will be a struggle, but did it make a difference to your smoothness?

To be honest I've always found those boutique HT leads a bit of a snake oil type thing.

They do look nicer though, but they just dont justify the price for me.

I still think coil personally, because as soon as they get hot they have a tendency to leak and that knackers 'em.

As I have already explained the Gemster will be wearing new shades curtousy of SPECS for this years PF
