Evening all, I'm sat here in hospital having had my appendix removed this morning. I've been told I can't work or drive for a while which is highly annoying as I drove in with what I assumed to be just bad stomach pains! So now dad's on his way up from Leicester so he can get my car back to my flat (because we're both young I can't insure the OH for the day) and is then aking me back to Leics to rest. I want to be back on my feet again asap, but realistically how long will it be before I can work, and more importantly drive again?

Probably only a couple of weeks really. I've never had my appendix out, but my sister has and I seem to remember it only being a couple of weeks before she was up and running again.

Hope you feel better soon though bud, not nice being sat all on your lonesome!!

once you are able to sit down without excruciating pain and eat solids without instantly vomiting, this normally only takes 2 to 3 months.

I was fine in a couple a weeks, the only real pain was from where they had sliced me open

Hi.

I had same last year. But I had key hole surgery.

Sore for 2-3 days. Driving and back to work within 3 days (desk job) . Skiing 3 weeks later. Perfectly alright after 6 weeks.

So not too bad.

As the others have said, normally about 2-3 weeks but it depends on how you heal, how they operated etc. But when you drive again, gradually built it up as it will take a while for the lower core muscles to recover. I tried to drive 200 miles after 3 days, burst my internal stitches (caused by operator error!) So was back to square one and took even longer to recover!

I had a hernia repair a few years ago and I was back to normal about 4 weeks later. To be fair, mine didn't exactly go to plan as I ended up with a bleed behind the scar which took ages to go away.

There was no pain, just felt a bit stiff above my left leg. I sat about not doing much in week one, but during week two I could wear normal clothes and wander about no problem at all.

My mate had his appendix out at a similar time, and he was up and about normally within a couple of days.

Just take it easy for a while and you will be fine smile

Cheers guys, it was keyhole that I had, there's 3 holes been put in my belly, one right near the belly button, one to the left side and one just above the gentleman's area. Am a bit confused as to why the one next to the belly button is still slightly leaking, but it can't have been that bad as I'm now back at my flat, dad's here and is taking me back to Leicester tomorrow. The Doctor said I won't be able to work for about a week, which is fair enough, and can drive again when I feel comfortable wearing a seatbelt. I was OK with the belt when dad picked me up from the hospital, but I'm not taking any chances and he's gone to get my car from the hospital now (originally I went in thinking it'd be a 15 minute chat with the Doctor, I get given pills and sent on my way like last time). Was meant to be taking the OH out tonight, never mind though, have spoken to her and we're doing it another time.
