Text in pictures and the swear filter

It was stated long ago that the swear filter was in place to stop external searches locating these words and blocking PH.

As words in pictures cannot be detected, banned words were left unmolested in pictures.

Recently, such pictures have been binned.

Is this an official policy change, or are some mods making assumptions..?

Seems fair - some filtering engines are using crowdsourcing to get their results differentiated from the pure IT ones. These tend to report on circumventions of the "don't type these letters" - whether that's pictures or replacing u with v in that word.

As far as I can recall, we've removed these (or added a 'binned' image) for a while now?

It's not a recent policy, not that I'm aware of anyway

If you go back, say, a year, there were many pictures left up.

In fact, I don't remember any being removed back then.

Hmm, maybe but I think that's more to do with them slipping through than a policy change and I'm being honest about that. These days most get reported so we act.

As for nit, no excuses bar fat fingers.

I've always removed them when I've seen them; and always will, as that's always been the policy.

Yep same here if the odd ones slips though no problems but when the thread is littered with them then I act and either edit or delete.

As are asked to point out that believe it or not PH is NOT an adult but a family website of members young and old.

I do wonder about this sometimes, and I draw an analogy to mrs k & I's local pub (!!) - especially earlier this evening - whereby it was overrun by parents with pre-nursery age kids. As regulars at The Crown, the "craic" is important as it is a proper boozer. Beer (never less than nine from independents), crisps, and pork scratchings.

Now. There are many "pubs" nearby that would cater for a family with pushchairs and offer highchairs. So, with the best will in the world - and to those at The Crown earlier - please take your screaming ankle biters elsewhere to a more appropriate place.

Similarly, PH is a place of Bentley S3 owners / McLaren F1 owners / owners of cars that are awfully interesting.

We're all adults in here. I'd remove the swear filter.

I challenge you...show me a youngster who doesn't use foul language every day. I don't like it, but it is with us and we have to live with it. I fear you're behind the times, Messrs Mods.

By family safe we use a rule of thumb that the site is safe to read over daddy's shoulder. This also goes for people browsing PH at work, either having a crafty peek or in their lunchbreaks but either way the censor is there to please the Websense filters but all that is undone if your boss sees on your screen in 5 inch high letters "English motherfker- do you speak it" with a picture of Samual L Jackson pointing a gun at him.

Mmmm youngster, I'm 17 and don't use foul language (Well online anyway).

I like PH due to the high standard of English, makes things a lot easier to understand and read.
PH is a family website and if it was unfiltered it would not be as lively as it is now, due to being blocked at work etc...


If it ain't broken, why fix it ?
