Any advice for first-timers?

Hi Guys. I'm thinking about going this year with a friend from uni to celebrate the end of our exams. We've only just decided to give it a go so there's plenty of homework for us to do! We were thinking about getting a pair of tickets and a camping pass from eBay but still need to cost it all including insurance, ferry/eurostar etc. Will the tickets become more expensive the longer we leave it? I'd quite like to see a bit of northern France too, are there any routes in particular that you could recommend? I'm off now to do some trawling on the net and on this site for some general info but if there's any advice you want to give I'd be glad to hear it.

Entry tickeets can be had at the door for general admission without any bother.... I gather that some camping sites are not sold out on the offical site (see other threads) with regards what to do there are many items on information here in this forum, or in beermountain'd guide which can be downloaded for free... enjoy it is a great experience...

Camping tickets will be your only big concern being so late, try all the agents and see what is left before you splash out on Ebay! Theres two roads from Rouen to Le Mans the A28 which is mainly motorway toll road and the D438. D438 is our route of choice, nicer road less tolls and some nice towns/villages where you can stop for a cheeky one. The only downside is waiting a whole year for the next one!

Friday night Le Mans parade is compulsory and wearing fancy dress goes down well with the locals.

it's 106 miles to Le Mans, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses............hit it ...

My advice is simple:

Write off the early/mid part of June for the rest of your life.

Don't forget two personal FM radios for the Radio Le Mans coverage and at least a packet of babywipes to clean your bits with. I also take a bog roll, not being fond of using socks as others have resorted to.

Oh. And a packet of co-codomol tablets from behind the counter at Boots to ease you through the hangover.

Don't forget the radio to follow what's going on!

Take all your cooking gear for camping so you don't go hungry! Gas stove and kettle for a brew, and some sort of big cooler box to stash ice and beer !!!

My best advice? Get out there. Don't bother sitting around the camp much. Don't be afraid to just go for a wonder where ever and look for places to watch the action. My main let down of last year (my first year)
