Question about building regs
Discussion
It's now OK under B.Regs, but it's still not a very clever idea.
There used to be a requirement in Building Regulations requiring a ventilated lobby between sanitary accomodation (ie. WC/Bathroom) and a food prep area (kitchen) but they removed this regulation some years ago (I think because of pressures form housbuilders arising from the difficulty of making such a lobby wheelchair accessible when the requirement was introduced on new housing for a 'wheelchair accessible' toilet on the entrance storey, but don;t quote me on that - it was a long time ago and my memory is woolly)
Do bear in mind though, that every time you flush a toilet, an 'aerosol' of the water in the WC pan is created. If you don't like the idea of such an aerosol potentially settling onto foodstuffs, then stick to using a ventilated lobby. I know plenty of Environmental Health Officers who remain totally horrified that the requirement was removed from B.Regs.
ETA: I've just noticed from your profiel that you're Scotland. I'd check with your Building Control Officer in that case (or wait for advice from a Scottish PH'der) if the work to which your query relates is in Scotland. You have your own B.Regs up there and I'm not familiar with them.
