Ok I have what I think is an earth issue, when I turn the ignition on the main beam comes on, but if I pull the main beam stalk the lights will go off, although the blue dash light stays on. If I start the car the main beam will go off, but again the blue dash light will stay on.
I have put a new earth to the dash as I had a problem earlier today with all the gauges showing maximum and loss of engine power.
Has any one got any ideas what could be wrong??

If I remember right when my lights did funny stuff like that it was a fried diode in the fusebox. As for the ground wire you ran, a little more info please like where from and where to and why you felt compelled to add to such a perfectly laid out harness to begin with (i.e. what let you to realize you needed more grounds there.
Mine threw a wobbly at the MOT (after the braked pipe popped and was repaired). There was an earth I did not know about from the alternator to the chassis that went HR (high resistance). Gauges went to max, ligts did funnies and fans would not come on on the overide etc. It started OK and run. The earth I thought it did use was something I check fairly regularly.
Edit. Had the diode issue on another occasion as well.
