Hi all, is anyone into streaming movies with an internet TV? I want a 46" Led tv. I think I'd like a Samsung and I don't want 3D tv. I'd just like a smart Samsung TV that I can stream movies to so that I can tidy the room up by binning the table and dvd player and just have the tv on the wall for the minimalistic look. I'll spend up to £1000 or there abouts so can anyone advise of a good model for my needs and also is the internet connection independant of my computers wifi or does my computer need to be on? Sorry for my ignorance but I know very little about it.

Cheers.

Not sure if I would buy a Samsung now to be honest. I have a 40" LCD which I thought was ok but has recently developed a fault switching on. A quick google threw up hundreds of people with the same problem, turns out they use cheap capacitors which break down and leak. Stripped mine down and it has done the same. It's a cheap fix, bought the parts for less than £15 and then they just need soldering in but is has put me off them. I also have a 50" LG plasma which has been fine. Not sure if the LCD sets will have the same problem but google "Samsung tv fault" before you make a decision.

Rather than make streaming a priority for a TV, get a decent Blu-Ray play to take care of that side.I bought a SONY S570(?) that will stream i-player, LoveFilm, Channel 5 etc plus it will stream any media you throw at it over your network. Has built in wi-fi too.

As long as your router is on and the player can access the internet, then you can take advantage of all the online/download media. Obviously if you want to stream something from your PC/NAS then that will have to actually be on. Maybe Google NAS boxes if you don't want to leave your PC on all the time.

TV's are best left to concentrate on producing the best possible picture IMHO, rather than performing a multitude of tricks. You'll either pay a fortune for an all singing and dancing TV or quality will have to be reduced from one area to facilitate another.

Agree totally, get the TV to do a TV job first then look at are streamer box like AppleTV, Western Digital or even a PS3 to do the streaming stuff.

I suggest you get to a store that has this model in it, and have a viewing:

As long as you have a wireless/or wired router, the tv will utilise it for an internet connection.

Just bought 2 new D series samsungs, they are excellent. Great picture, incredibly slim and the features of the smart hub are brilliant
