I'm quite a fan of 'les cremants' (generally, moreso than pukka champagne) so was very happy, yesterday, to grab a bottle of this which is on special offer in Waitrose. (£7.49)

And it's rather nice!

When I first opened it, it had only been in a normal fridge for a couple of hours so wasn't quite cold enough. It was cold enough that it didn't froth over on opening, but wasn't ice cold. I usually find this a taste killer for French sparkling wines as, unless they are ice cold, they are shudderingly bitter; but this was smooth, full-bodied and fruity. A subsequent second glass, when it was colder still was typically 'champenoise', but again, as I left it to pick up the ambient temperature, the wonderful 'wine behind the bubbles' came through.

For me, this makes it a perfect summer party drink, as it's often hard to keep large quantities of wine at the perfect temperature for serving.

So if you've got a summer bash which won't properly pass without some bubbly, I'd recommend it.

This is good.

Clearly others agree - there was only one bottle left in the Cobham branch.

Duly nabbed.

Thread resurrection on this one as I saw it's on offer in Waitrose again and gave it a try. Just did a search before posting my recommendation and spotted this thread. Really lovely drop of fizz and IMHO nicer than Prosecco and many cheaper champagnes.

Thanks for the tip! Is it £7.49 again?

Bit more I think.. 8.49 maybe, but they were doing extra money off 6 bottles of anything too.

You lied frown

Not on offer (£11.99). No six bottle offer in play either.

Doh, sorry! It must have finished this week I guess. My Missus bought a few bottles whilst I was away in Barcelona this week drinking their frankly inferior Cava at a conference smile They do a nice G&T in Spain though!

In a similar vein, I've had Aldi's Cremant de Jura and really enjoyed it. It has won various "best budget fizz" awards in the past, which is what promoted me to try it, and at £7.49 a bottle I'd say it's definitely worth a try.
