Rear fans

Thinking of ripping them out cause i cant get them to work,are they worth bothering with?

Is that in the boot? It doesn't look standard fit to me.

I dont have any in my boot. What would they be doing there, getting rid of fumes from the petrol tank ?

Maybe it was a prototype? but there was a switch under the driver seat that was wired to them but didnt work,anyhow im gonna take them out.
Theres also an radio aerial conection which goes nowhere,i guess thats why there no reception?

I would invest a few quid at a auto sparks to get rid of some of the wires that are running all over the place doing nothing.
Also it looks like a fuse just before it connect to the fan, That way all the wire can burn from the batterie the fuse before it blows,
If the rear shelfs in that mess would hate to see in the foot well.

Its all nice and tidy now with only the speaker wires left.

There in the bin now but they never worked,i traced the wires but they had been disconnected from the feed for the aerial.

I think the Op was right - that's probably the prototype.

I recall reading about TVR experimenting with a system similar to Merc's Airscarf (or whatever it's called) - they did it on a Griff so that Griff owners didn't feel too cold or buffeted when going over about 30MPH. For some reason, it didn't catch on, and as Chimaeras were the bigger seller and Chimaera drivers wouldn't need such a thing, it wasn't worth pursuing

some cars drew exhaust fumes in from the rear, causing headaches.

Probably done to stop that.

no real displacement volume possible, as there's only the 6 holes at the rear wheel arch to eject from? Better then nothing, but since they weren't working..

Its done to relieve air pressure in the cockpit,which in turn helps prevent the roof from lifting off at high speeds.This is why we have vents in the rear panel and its important not to block them up with speakers,or if you do,then to put more vents back in.Interestingly i know of a pre-cat which doesnt have the holes in the boot floor to let the air out and has no vents in the rear panel.Obviously you really need the boh in order for the pressure relief to be effective,so did all pre-cats not have rear vents originally?

Pretty sure mine didn't have any vents, unless they were hidden under the carpet.

Hi mate,hows it going?I'd be interested to know if any pre-cats left the factory with vents,as it looks like my car might not have had them originally. i was wondering if it became a dealer mod/factory recall for the earlier cars before becoming standard later on,perhaps after one or two sudden 'roof departures' maybe?
