Ok sorry to do this guys but I am lacking inspiration.
I have £2000 maximum to spend on a daily. I would like something at least a little interesting.
It does need to be able to get me to work everyday (around a 30 mile commute). I was thinking something Japanese but I am not convinced that is the way to go, I will probably want to sell it again in 6 months or so when I can afford something better.
Thanks in advance chaps!

No, funnily enough there's a massive price range. An enthusiast might be asking for £5k for that same car. Traders hate them though, and just sell them for beans. The 1.8's seem to be particularly unloved, probably worth picking up one of those, getting the headgasket changed, and have a very cheap nice runabout.

Why buy a shopping trolley when you can have a bit of luxary?

Get an XJ8
I know you can get a decent P6 V8 for less than £2000 but there are a lot of dogs.

I've just picked up a mint Clio Sport for my 50 mile commute.
You need to narrow down your requirements if you want serious replies.
But £2k and Jap? I'd be looking at a EP Civic or maybe accord type R
I hadn't thought of a clio!! I shall have a little look. You need to narrow down your requirements if you want serious replies.

To be honest I think I will skip on the Jag idea thanks chaps... was thinking more along the lines of it being cheap to run I don't really have the funds to run one of those!
What should I look for in a clio?

Can you get one for less than £2000? I was thinking XJ40 / Series III.

You can get a leggy one, may be a bit of a dog. One in autotrader for £999, with 160k on the clock!I know you can get a decent P6 V8 for less than £2000 but there are a lot of dogs.
Series III's are on the way up for nice ones, IMO. Even so, not by much such a lot of car for the monies

Interesting. Seems the X300/308 will be the next one to go down to peanuts, perhaps the XJ40 will start to recover?

Too true, but you have to think at £1-2k how much further can they fall, they break for £3k if you do the work to strip them! But they're mainly far too good to break. I'd be tempted to buy a leggy one in good nick!Series III's are on the way up for nice ones, IMO. Even so, not by much such a lot of car for the monies
