Eldest son has moved to Brussels with his g/f, so we're planning to go out in the summer and reasonably frequently from now on I suppose. There seem to be loads of possibilities to get there and back, Eurostar, fly, ferry, coach even. Can anyone can recommend the best and a relatively cheap way of doing this? Price not as important as short travel time/convenience, we'll be going in our time off so not tied to any time of day or days of the week.

Two of us from Cambridgeshire, maybe with or without car, we can book in advance by 2-3 months if necessary. I know there's lots of factors involved but a place to start will help loads as we're quite bewildered.

Well - you're right, you're spoilt for choice. Lots depends on how much you want to spend and how quick the journey needs to be.

The only direct flights from the London area are from Heathrow - so that leaves you pretty much just with Eurostar as a quick option.

It depends where you are starting out from but Eurostar would also get my vote every single time.

Brussels airport is an experience not to be repeated imo, we've had more people with travel and luggage problems going through there than enough.

Eurostar is very convenient now that it goes from St Pancras - Cambridge trains all go into Kings Cross so only a short walk between. If you can be flexible on travel dates, then it can be down to £69pp return from London.

Else driving is fine, Eurotunnel is also cheap and convenient then Brussels is about 2 hours out of Calais.

Thanks for the replies everyone - seems a pretty clear answer! I'll go and trawl through the website to find what deals I can.
