Hi guys,

All interior lights on my MK4 Golf work apart from the drivers side puddle light. I have tried changing the bulb but no joy. All the wire connections seem to be ok. The door light open sign on the dash lights is only showing when I open the passenger door as well now, not the drivers door. Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers.

Wires between the door and chasis have chaffed where the door opens. Common fault on most of the VAG range as the wires are stretched too tight. Pull the rubber boot off and inspect the wires.

This will be a fault with the door lock mechanism.
The switch for the door open signal is built into it. It fails leaving the symptoms you describe. It can be further confirmed by turning your lights on with no key in and opening the door, the warning buzzer will not sound.

Turned out it was this, pretty common fault from looking on a few MK4 sites. Pain in the ass!

Likely a new door lock mech, can be picked up from scrappys fairly cheap. Easy to replace on the driveway too.

Personally I'd be replacing the plastic window mech with metal ones whilst you've got the door card and panel off too. Cos if they havent gone, they will do soon!
