Me, it was an E type. Well, in a way it was - a Morris 8 series E 1948. My uncle's car that failed the first MOT in 1960 when I was 14 and was left at our place to die I guess, except we got it going again, and had a hell of a lot of fun with it, even (illegally of course) driving on the road and overtaking my first car! Then I learned to drive properly at 17 in a BSM Austin A40. So what did you learn in then?

Taught myself to drive in a Reliant Regal Supervan (not much "super" about it) when I just had a 'bike licence - fell out with my parents and it became a handy place to live for a couple of weeks as well...

MK2 Jag was the first car I ever drove when I was about 6 or 7, that was straight into a pile of coal. After that it was an Anglia, Granada, DBS V8 Aston, a few different 32ton trucks but passed my test in a 1959 Mini.

First vehicle I ever 'drove' was either a Massey Ferguson tractor that I steered round the field during potato picking or my Dad's RAF staff car, a Standard Vanguard I drove by sitting on his lap. At secondary school we had an old Ford Taunus we cut the body off and 'rallied' around the school grounds.

The first car I had a lesson in was a driving school Morris 1100. As soon as I passed my test I bought the 1300GT version and took my driving teacher out for a razz, he loved it.

My driving instructor had an MG Metro, in white with a grey interior and bright red seat belts. I practiced in my mum's Mk 1 VW Golf 1.3 CL. I loved the Metro; it was a lovely car to drive, so easy and fine handling. It made the Golf feel like a Tractor.

The first car I "drove" was a mid 'seventies BMW 3.0si in the late 1970s. I couldn't reach the pedals, so just steered it. smile

I learned in the family Mk4 Golf TDI 130. Was a great car to start in and fairly pokey for a first car smile

A mix of my dad's 1959 MkIX, a rare manual, and the driving school Hillman Imp.

Passed first time of course! redface

With a warning from the examiner to watch my speed.

43 years later I'm still having trouble with that!
