Suprise! It's a what car!
Discussion
Ok chaps, I'm looking for some suggestions.
My current fleet can be seen on my profile - it's a Smart Roadster Brabus which the missus uses for commuting, and we both use for fun weekend driving, and an e90 330D M-Sport which I use to trawl up and down the motorway at the weekends towing my boat to various events, and for other practical duties which require 4 seats and a bit of a boot.
Now, my missus is starting a new job based in central london, so will be commuting by train, and for my boating activities I really need either a big estate car or a Van, so there are changes brewing.
I've currently got my heart set on a Van, which would be great for getting all my stuff around, I could sleep in it when I go to places where hotels are crap (Wales, for example) and fundamentally I think that a nice sport-van with body coloured bumpers, alloys, and some choice bits of trim are very, very cool.
So the decision is for the other car.
Requirements are:
Must be able to carry 4 people short distances (picking people up from the station etc). 2+2 would be ideal, but no less obviously.
Must have a reasonable boot.
Must be able to be a "fun" car for weekend hooning when required (and the missus loves a bit of oomph).
Can't be too large (or the missus will reject for parking/manouvering reasons).
Don't care about fuel economy - won't be doing big miles in it.
I love RWD but might be flexible.
Budget of about 7-10k, but might stretch for something really good.
So far I'm thinking of things like:
Honda Civic Type R (not RWD), possibly a bit chavvy.
Some kind of merc coupe thing
BMW 130i MSport
e39 M5
E46 M3's will probably be dogs at that price...
...and any other suggestions. Never had to think about this category before so a bit lacking in ideas!
Over to you...

Maserati 3200gt, couple in the classifieds now for around 10k.
For some reason that suggestion has given me a funny feeling... In my wallet
purchase cost within budget, but I'd be a bit worried about the service bills! Good suggestion though, would never have thought of it

You'll have to change your name. How about a Golf GTi?
Mmm or an r32. Might see if I can get a test drive on one and see if it's any good. I had a 4motion as a courtesy car once and didn't rate it - handling was a bit odd, slightly too light and the ride seemed skittish. I won't rule it out based on that experience though.Edited by BMWBen on Sunday 15th May 21:00
