Hi guys wondering if there is any fellow phers out there that can help me out. I have been living up in aberdeen now for about three years, steadily gaining experience in the oil and gas industry and for the last seven months been going offshore with schlumberger but my goal is to get into the rov industry.

I have looked on all the rov company websites i can think of but to no avail, I done the one day rov course at fortwilliam which gave me a brief insight and a chance to fly one in real world conditions and i am hooked.
Sadly cant afford the over 11,000 course fee or the seven weeks off so it may remain just a dream but if anyone can be of help i would be grateful

If it's what excites you and there is a demand (it seems to be a growth industry), then why not try and afford the training costs? Sit down and do some sums; cost of course and loss of earnings over duration of course Vs potential gross earnings for remainder of working life. You may be pleasantly surprised at the results. And the sooner you start and build up years of experience, the faster your salary will rise. Remember, every other ROV pilot/tech/instructor has had to do this so why not ask a few how they managed it and would they do it again if they had their time over? Good luck!

Hi mate its not so much the money as my other half says there is ways round everything but its getting the seven weeks off work thats the issue, I would have more chance of walking across the north sea to the rig i am going to on friday than getting the parrafin budgy.

I know this sounds negative but cant afford to pay the mortgage without a job whilst i train for seven weeks

Then you need a plan!

You will need to resign from your current role to start the course. Don't do that until you have found another job at the end of your course. Get the job, borrow the money to pay for the course (or ask your new employer to assist with costs/low interest loan), ask mortgage lender for a '12 month payment holiday' and Bob's your uncle! You'll have to accept some risk to achieve Your goal...or you can just give up and delete your original thread?
