temp sender

Hello everybody need some help ,it seem,s my temp gauge sem,s to have stopped working i have had the dash out to put new dash in S/S one i made sure everything worked before i finnished up ,i have had the engine running a few times and it worked perfect no a it seems to have life of its own ,oh i also did an oil and filter change but i don,t thing i knocked anything doing that i have looked in the bible it say,s the are 3 sensor,s i have found 2 1 in the front of the engine there is also one not 2 far away from the distirutor so it say,s in the bible , but i can,find the 1 it say,s is by the ECU i don,t know if i sould replace the sensors or not before i remove the dash again, i have cleaned the contact,s on the one,s i have found ,but it still not working any help would be great many thanks paul

I had a very similar problem recently, in the end I cured it by simply giving the main connector to the ECU box down by the battery a wiggle, and ensuring that the connector block is pushed firmly home. Hope you get it sorted out soon.

There are three temp sensors, one for the Otter Switch, one for the ECU and one for the temp guage. The sensor for the Otter switch may be on the swirl pot or on the rad (later models). The one for the ECU is just behind the distributor and has a brown oval/square plastic cover.

According to the Bible the sensor for the temp guage may be in a water pipe or somewhere on the front of the engine or in the water pump. On my Griff, a late one, it's behind the distributor below the ECU sensor, you need a torch to see it. I had exactly the same problem as you and after cleaning the spade connector sorted it out.

Thanks very much for all your help i have found what i think are all the sensor,s got the one on the otter switch also the 1 by the dizzy there is one on the front of my engine but it is attached by a small nut bit of a pain to get at i think i will get two of the three sensors first put them on see if that sorts,it out i don,t think it is the otter switch as i changed that last year ,,i,ll do the sensors first before i go behind the dash and look at the temp connection thanks again paul
