I thunk me ing exhaust has gone. Not enough oomph, excess popping and banging at the slightest lift off from the accelerator and sounds blooming rough above about 3000rpm.

Seems OK in idle though.

Didn't sound like that yesterday...

Any thoughts?

I have mine in the garage right now with the same symptoms and MOT time, may be not as bad as yours, but I am told my exhaust is blowing, so although I'm no expert, (an opening for some revenge here!!), sounds familiar!!

Sorry to hear that Shell.

I am having mine re-catted on 2 June so I think if I can stand the din until then I will get them to look at the problem at the same time.

Well, yes, you could say that (!), but it actually sounds now like there is something wrong with the car!

AH!

I can remember the point at which my engine had just given up the ghost.
I was sitting in the car with a helmet on (just come back in from my out lap) and was sitting there talking to the garage mechanic shouting "I think there's something worng listen!!" whilst revving the b0ll0cks of the now dying AJPV8, mechanic almost shat himself. You have to laugh.......

mine is similar at the moment, machine gun rattle at 3600rpm and above and lots of popping and banging. No loss of oomph though.

I'm getting it looked at at the next service, but no point being too worried...

Mine doesn't sound like a machine gun. It sounds like a Trabant with the silencer removed

I have a distinct loss of power, or maybe I am just not flooring it because it sounds so grim!

Try it, (flooring it that is), if not, I think you could loose a little power from a blown exhaust, but not masses, unless it affect some electrickery/back pressure, I'm talking crap now!! Sounds a little more sinister to me, I no expert.

Probably just a sensor gone that is impacting the running, fuelling or air etc...
Get it on a computer.
I doubt it is your exhaust.

Well, just been to Austec and shoved in on a ramp, and the right pipe just past the D clamp has sheered all the way through. So at least it is only a small tube of metal rather than something more terminal.

Phew!
