Just returned from a 3-day ride along the fairly new Coast to Coast route. Beginning in Morecambe in Lancashire, ending in Bridlington, via York. Officially about 170 miles. The vast majority of the route is along deserted minor roads. Stress free cycling indeed!

My longest ride ever before this was 55 miles a few weeks ago, so I was pretty chuffed to complete all 170 miles. Average speed wad 10.2 mph, which is probably snails pace to most here! My gps logged 8300 ft of climbing.

I did the route on my 2005 Hardrock, with some semi Road tyres on. Much easier than the stock off road tyres I had trained on. Also fitted some clipless pedals which were a great aid. Anyway, the bug has truly bitten and my next step is to get a proper road bike and planning our next expedition.

A great route and thoroughly recommended.

Where did you stop off, and have you got a copy of your route? I am doing Grange-Over-Sands to Scarboro in July.

First night in Malham, though I think most people stay in Grassington. Second night in York. Stayed in youth hostels in both and they were pretty decent for about £20 a night.

Regarding the route we bought the official paper copy, and some of us plotted the route into our GPS phones. The route is exceptionally well signposted though, and you really only need a map for backup.
